decent night sleep - tiny hint on mask leaks

Post by momexp5 » Sun Jul 03, 2005 3:47 am

Good morning hoseheads. It's 5:30, I'm up with the birds, coffee at my right. My 6yo dd came in and woke me up, which kind of annoyed me enough to fully wake me and get my brain going, I gave up trying to get back to sleep. But I actually feel like I got a decent night sleep last night. Got to bed before midnight. I washed my gear yesterday and made sure to wash my face at bedtime, so my comfort gel mask actually behaved itself. When I put it on my face and the machine started up, the mask actually sucked itself onto my face before I had the bottom straps fastened. I had a couple times when I shifted or turned and got a small leak, and just twitching the muscle under the leak made it go away. And that, folks, is the tiny hint I promised, and it takes a nice clean mask to do it.

I've found superglue and winding an inner tube around my head repeatedly works best....

(only kidding)

hehehe! Bet RG has a documented file on that technique, LB! (Just Kidding, RG!!)

Funny, but I was going to post something similar this AM... woke up with my mask seal so tight that I could get my whole finger in between the forehead cushions and my face! <LOL>

I get headaches if the forehead cushion touches my head
But I have the mask so tight that my upper lip gets very sore
AND IT STILL LEAKS

I use cotton balls and rubbing alcohol and clean my face thoroughly prior to donning the torture gear --opps-- mask

I've heard often that it's better to have the straps on the loose side, the masks are designed to work without being fastened tight. The straps are just to hold the thing in place, not to smush it against your face.

Wow. She was right, what a difference. I haven't had any leaks since I became religious about washing face and mask nightly. Maybe I'm just lucky....? Anyway, thanks again; in spite of all the joking, you did some of us a great service by bringing this up! ; )
