traveling with CPAP

Post by Reba » Sat May 03, 2008 11:16 am

Hi! I just became a registered user. I have had my machine for about 10 days & getting along great.
BUT, I need help! I am going to be traveling to NC at months end. My first experience traveling.
I would like to have a wheeled bag/duffel to carry my machine & compotents, purse, medicine, book and etc.
Is there a brand that you all have used & would recommend. I realize I need to have this as my carry-on.
I would appreciate all of your input and help.

Thanks
reba

Hi Reba! Welcome to the forum.

Although I have traveled with my cpap, I usually just carry it where ever I go, so I can't help with a wheeled carrier.

Be sure to bring and extension cord with you.

Brenda

I'm not quite sure whether you're asking about the machine or luggage, so I'll answer both.

The machine I use is the Puritan Bennett 420E. It's simply the best, IMHO. It weighs just over a pound and I've found I can travel with it in a "small" carry-on which fits into the "small" overhead compartments on the "small" regional jets. The other nice feature is that TSA hasn't pulled me aside for inspection when it ran through their x-ray machines inside my wheeled carry-on.

The 420E is also a dandy APAP which, although I got it specifically for travel, I now use as my main machine at home.

My carry-on is a "small" Samsonite which is advertised as a "wheeled business case/Overnighter". Available here:

I fit a couple of days clothes, laptop, 420E and CPAP paraphernalia into it. I travel light.

Regards,
Bill

Hello & Welcome, Reba! Glad you found this forum--SO much useful info and SO many helpful people here!

When I travel, I just take my M Series A-FLEX along in it's own travel bag, the one that came with it. Of course, there's that zzz-PAP Silent Traveler--looks pretty nice if one wanted to get a separate traveling machine. https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/proba ... chine.html

Reba:

I couldn't tell from your post whether you're looking for a piece of luggage for your convenience in travel with the CPAP, or whether you're trying to accommodate the carry-on limit. U. S. airlines must allow your CPAP without counting it as a carry-on. I don't know about other countries.

The laptop and the CPAP will have to come out of the case for TSA inspection.

Never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity.

I have only traveled once by plane with my bipap. I did find it hard to carry that, plus my purse, plus my tote bag with all my meds, and then wheel my portable oxygen concentrator.

I went out and bought a wheeled backpack from High Sierra at Macys, AT405-210. It was on sale for $140, not cheap, but it will last for years it is so heavy duty. It also has a detachable day pack which I will remove so it will conform to carry on standards.

I haven't actually traveled with it yet , but I will next week. I may still need a little help getting into the overhead bin.

Hope this helps!
Margaret
