Little help with AHI

Post by Rumur » Mon Apr 07, 2008 8:27 am

I found how to get in the clinical side of my machine to see my results.
I have a question about the AHI index.
Saturday and Sunday morning showed an AHI of 11.2
This morning it showed 9.1

Is that an average over the course of the night, or the actual number of episodes?

I know the goal is less than 5, but I want to watch it for at least a week before I make changes to my settings.

Thanks

Russ

That's the average per hour.

I'd start mouthtaping or get a FF mask before I did anything. Jim

I believe it is the average per hour over the course of the night. I don't know if it is an average of each hour's average, or an average of the total events divided by the hrs of sleep though.

On a detailed graph I can see that my average for "each" hour varies and it is obvious the total is an average of those values, but I haven't tried to add things up to see how the machine is getting that total average total. I tend to have the most problems early in the morning which can really skew my total AHI.

It's the average per hour. You can prove this.

If you have Encore Viewer, look at a daily graph that shows VS, OA, Hy, FL, AHI. Count the number of tick marks that represents your OAs. Let's say that there are three tick marks. That's what you called "actual number of episodes.

Now look at the sleep time. Let's say that it was 7:50. That is 7.83 hrs.

Three divided by 7.83 = 0.38. EV would probably call it 0.4 OA.

You don't have to go to the clinincal menu every time you want to see yoru results. If you push the left and right buttons at the same time, it will bring up the menu you need to see your results without going through the extra steps of your clinical menu.
