M series auto

Post by MrRandom » Sun Apr 06, 2008 8:18 pm

I'm still wondering if anyone has had this whistling problem? This machine, after 20 days of use, makes the most god awful whistling sound. Is it broken or is it just something that happens with these things? I can't sleep with it, it's too high pitched and annoying. It is not the mask, hose, filters or humidifier. It is the machine itself, the motor, or something. It is making me crazy.

I have had mine for about a week and so far no whistling. I have found out with my old machine and this one if I have my humidifier to high it can cause condensation on the mask vent and cause a weird whistle. I hope it is your mask or something causing it instead of this machine.

Well just wait, I bet in another week and a half you'll be wearing ear plugs! It is truly awful. It is definitely the machine itself. Crazy but true. It was so quiet at first, I dunno what happened

My M Series is extremely quiet - I think there must be something wrong with yours - it should be under guarantee surely.

I think it's a mask issue. I have that from time to time. Every night I go to sleep I have three masks to cycle through. Sometimes I get a nose leak with one , sometimes a whistle, sometimes I cannot get a seal although this was my 'favourite' mask last night.

I also had a tube break recently where there was a whistle keeping me awake all night. I think I caused it by swinging it around to get rid of the condensation in the middle of the night!
Welcome to the weird world of CPAP!

I've had my M series auto for almost a year. I have had occasional whistling due to mask leaks, but the main machine has been pretty quiet. Now that my headrest is modified, I don't have many mask leaks at all to deal with. I have asked my wife if the machine makes too much noise, she says it's a LOT quieter than my snoring was.

Contact the place you bought if from - if its definitely the machine, and it's sound has change so dramatically, then something is definitely wrong.

So I woke up this morning and looked at the pressure. It said 8, but it felt to me more like 6. The safety valve in my mask flutters every now and then for no apparent reason (this happened last night as well). And it has that high pitched whine, which is intermittent. This definitely does not seem right, so I will call the DME today and ask them fix or replace.

I was thinking about this post on the way to work this morning, and I had a thought.. (yes, really!)
A couple "well hidden" places where you might develop a whistle might be the filter holder on the back of the machine, the rubber junction between the machine and the humidifier, and possibly even the rubber lips of the humidifier tank. I'd guess that the famous tank O-ring problems could set up a pretty good whistle as well.

But of course, I could be completely wrong, too.

My M auto bipap was sososo noisy - changed pitch, in and out, like a ventalator- But extremely loud. Mine whistled also, but I don't remember if it was on the inhale or exhale. I was fortunate enough to be able to change it out before my 10 month rental was up. I really tried hard to become accustomed to it but never could - so I told my very good, patient, understanding DME that I wanted to get the older "classic tank" model in its place - which he promptly did and I have been happy with my older model ever since.
