Been on CPAP for a week now and....

Post by tekman88 » Sun Apr 06, 2008 12:56 pm

I've been writing down my #'s each morning....I have the ResMed S8 Elite.....

First night was like this....

Leak= 0.18L/s
AHI=7.3
AI=1.1
HI=6.2

Second night....

Leak=.26L/s
AHI=7.0
AI=1.0
HI=6.0

Third night...

Leak=.22L/s
AHI=8.5
AI=1.4
HI=7.1

Fourth night...

Leak=.22L/s
AHI=7.0
AI=.5
HI=6.5

Fifth night...

Leak=.38L/s
AHI=8.3
AI=.8
HI=7.5

Sixth night...
Leak=.32L/s
AHI=5
AI=.5
HI=4.5

My pressure maximum is supposed to be 9.....but a few of those nights it showed 8.8, and etc....

One of those first 2-3 days there, I felt more energetic and one day I managed to go ALL DAY long without yawning, or feeling tired at all....but now it seems like I still feel tired and sleepy later in the day....and I actually laid down with my mask on one day and took a nap with the machine....on another day I just took a regular nap laying on my stomach...

I didn't expect an overnight miracle, but I wonder if the day will come when I'll feel like I did that one day where I wasn't sleepy or tired ALL DAY long??....

I know how to set the max. pressure UP, but then the DME's RT will know I changed it when I have to send him the data card in about another week or so...Should I give it a little more time with these initial settings to see if that AHI# comes down to below 5 or even approach 0 before I try to change the max pressure??.....

If the AHI was closer to 0, would I feel MORE rested and less tired??.....I'm not saying I'm DOG tired the last few days, but I think I feel about the same as on a normal, pre-CPAP day....more or less.....

Other than my nose being a little sore where the mask sits, I haven't really had any other problems wearing it....some mornings my top teeth have been a little dry and sore from the mask pushing against my upper lip??....

Anyways, any comments would be appreciated....Thanks

Stanley

Looks like a pretty good week 1, Stanley! I'll let some of our resident experts provide a more detailed analysis of your numbers, but I know a goal is to get that AHI number down to 5 or less--you did that on day 6. That took me quite awhile, actually didn't happen for me until after I got an auto machine and found the "sweet spot" for my pressure settings (over a year after I started!). That upper lip pressure is one of the main reasons I prefer my full face mask over my nasal mask.

Stanley,

Looks to me like you are doing pretty well. You are using your CPAP every night, which is the #1 thing. I think I remember that your AHI at your sleep study was just under 60, so you are definitely doing yourself some good.

Your leak rate still looks a bit higher than I would like it if it were me, and would explain why a couple of nights your pressure is down.

Lower numbers seem to equal better days for me, generally. How much are you sleeping each night? That is also a factor to consider in how much energy you have. It can take a while, weeks or months even, of sleeping right to pay back the the years of sleep debt your body is owed.

Keep up the good work buddy!
