No, I've never heard of CPAP having any effect on sense of smell.

I believe that it has enhanced my sense of smell.

Have you been using any nasal decongestants/sprays? Like Afrin?

I've read where some of them can have that effect.

I've read that Zinc nasal sprays used to fight colds (like Zicam) can cause loss of sense of smell or taste.

Flonaze will also kill your sense of smell.
Try the Scented CPAP Mask with Pur-Sleep's CPAP Aromatherapy--CPAP Diffuser and Essential Oils.

Some anti-depressants also have that effect.

I lost my sense of smell after 5 years on APAP with nasal pillows but there's no way to determine that APAP caused it. Considering I went 5 years , it seems doubtful that APAP was the reason. Most likely some external cause or possibly the onset of aihzemers. But the question is worth asking about.

90% of alhzeimer patients first had a loss of smell. That doesn't mean that the loss of smell will lead to alhzeimers, at least I hope not in my case, but it is something to keep in mind (no pun intended).

Perhaps the loss of smell would be a good subject to keep track of in regards to APAP use.

I lost most of my sense of taste and smell after a bout with a virus over a weekend about 19 years ago. I had a fever for several days. When it was over, most of my taste and smell were gone.
I've heard that there are viruses that just attack that area of the body. Maybe you got one of those? its a real bummer.
I used to love to walk by people who had perfume on. It would bring flashbacks of neat moments in my childhood. And the smell of fresh cut grass was so wonderful. And the scent of magnolia blossoms.......all gone.
And with food, now I have to salt things alot to taste them, which isn't good.
Anyhow......maybe you got a virus.
(Although....the Alzheimer thing might be right, since I'm getting more easily confused by the second).

That's curious about the Zicam theory, since sometimes a loss of taste and smell can be because of a zinc deficiency.
Have you had a neuro workup?
