Encore Pro 1.7 installation issue

Post by bangy104 » Sat Mar 01, 2008 5:54 pm

Hi All

I have encore pro 1.7 and data card reader and it was working great on my last computer however i just got a new laptop and am trying to install software. I am able to succesfully install car reader and encore pro but when i start encore pro it gives an error unable to connect to sepcified database.

During install of encore pro I see messages like creating tables , updating statistics which make me think it was able to connect to the database during installtion howvever i am not sure why i am getting unable to connect to sepcified database error now?

I have a IBM thinkpad with win xp home and i see some type of sql server 2005 installed on it

Any ideas what am i doing wrong

Not sure where you got the software but it sounds like it may have been previously installed somewhere. There is a way to change where it looks for the database. I don't have 1.7 but on 1.8.49 its under Preferences> Database Server - typically its in the format "Your PC - Name\ENCOREPRO".

Post back or PM me if you still have troubles.

Well I'll be - no idea what your doing wrong but I would review each step. You do have instructions on how to set this up?
You sound computer savvy so maybe look to see that under Preferences> System Settings are OK too. Check under your "Help" to make sure that IS working too.

help is working but it does not have anything on debugging connection issues. none of the options under preferences open. I am assuming this might be becoz preferences are also stored in a database table which it cannnot connect to?
I am think of uninstalliing sql server 2005 and encore pro and then letting encore pro install the database software also. any other suggestions

No it sounds like you may be on to it- I know SQL has to run - if you don't have something stopping it give the re-install a try. Do you see SQL.exe in you Task Mgr?

Good deal go into System Settings to make sure it is set to the correct Reader Config ex. USB??
Also "Prompt to keep Compliance data..." on card after download and "Always perform this action" should be checked.

ps. this is the forum lol
