New Here

Post by RickSt » Wed Jun 08, 2005 11:31 am

Hi all,my name is Rick and I live in Arkansas.I'm 49 years old and have snored most of my life.I've had high blood pressure all my life.

I had a sleep study done two weeks ago and got a call from my doctor's office yesterday that I must return June 20th to be tested for a cpap machine. My doctor wants me to take the results of my sleep study with me to see my cardiologist.

Can I get some information on what will happen next or how the whole process works from here on out as far as the cpap? Will the people doing the study try to sell me a unit or will a salesman call or come to the house?

Any info or advice is appreciated.
Rick

Look in the yellow pages for a med supply place near you...ask them who handles sales and service for cpap close to you. When the dr. writes the order he may suggest a place that he likes....if he doesn't..then contact the place you called. If you call now they will tel you how it is handled. You may call the drs. office and ask his help what is his procedure after you see him

Check with your insurance company and see where they prefer you go. They will give a list of preferred providers. Check out all of those and see who gives you the best information when you call. If you don't have insurance, definitely buy on line. I would recommend cpap.com

The place you have your second sleep study may sell equipment, but they will need a prescription from your Doc first. Take the time to talk over the results with your Doc and discuss you options for equipment before you buy form anybody.

I'm new here, too. Welcome!

My doctor gave me a prescription for my CPAP, along with info about where to get it, based on my insurance. I hope it's that easy for you.

When I got there we talked about the diff kinds of masks (I had a lot of trouble with the big mask used at the sleep center), and I tried some out. The staffers were extremely patient and informative.

Now if I could just keep the darned mask on for more than two hours...
