GoodKnight 420SP and SilverLining?

Post by tinaw » Tue Jan 08, 2008 1:39 pm

Does anyone use the silver lining software with the GoodKnight 420SP? I am only a few weeks into cpap use, but I'm wondering if software is worth it for me. Does it work well with this machine? I figured I'd wait until I go back to the Doc in a couple weeks to see how I'm doing. Just curious for now- thanks in advance!

Most of the PB 420 users seem to have the "Auto - E" version, but YES, anytime you have a data-collecting machine, the software is worth getting. Usually, the data coming out of a CPAP machine is slightly less "complex" than the Auto versions, but your machine should give the same information as a 420E version would if set to single-pressure (CPAP) mode.

Tracking you data is always worth while, and the only way to do it on a PB machine is with the software.

If you feel absolutely fine, and are also in a financial crunch, then you can put it off till the time you start wondering whether the therapy is still working. Otherwise, I'ld definitely get the software now.

Silverlining software has always been my favorite because of its "96 hour" graph, full of detailed data. Consecutive nights are easily seen side by side on that graph.

The PB 420G machine can't show detailed data, but the 420SP you have can, as well as the 420S and 420E.

When I was using the PB 420E auto every night for a long time, I ran a lonnnnngggg telephone extension cord from the machine to the 420E's download cable that I left connected to my computer in another room. A trick I learned from an old post by loonlvr. That way I didn't have to unhook the hose and carry the machine and its power cord to the computer when I wanted to do a download.

Yes, I'd definitely get the software if I were you.

Rested Gal,
I need a clarification on the PB 420SP and and Silverlining.

The current SL3 version being sold is 3.1.

On mine an older version, I have a demo file for the 420S - that one does not have a 96 hour detailed data option.

Is this different for the 420SP, with the newer version of SilverLining?

Thanks,
O.

You're right, ozij! I was mistaken about Silverlining software providing the 96 hour graph for Puritan Bennett's 420S or SP cpap data.

For the "S" cpap machines, Silverlining shows the number of apneas and hypopneas on the Events Report page. No 96 hour graph for their "cpap" machines.

Thanks for the clarification! I've used only the 420E autopap. I haven't used a 420S or 420SP cpap. Glad you caught that.

For people who haven't seen how data is displayed in the Silverlining software used by Puritan Bennett's machines....

Here are a couple of screenshots of the top and bottom of page 52 from the Silverlining 3.6 help file example of an Events Report for a 420S (presumably would look the same for a 420SP):

Below is a screenshot of the very detailed "96 hour" graph Silverlining generates when using the 420E autopap:

I added the words to the picture about "without and with tape." That was one of my 420E reports back when I occasionally tried an experimental night without tape over my mouth. You can see how jagged the leak rate got and how much the pressure had to go up...on the night without tape.
