How do you make Kaiser give you an "M" series with

Post by Parf » Tue Jan 08, 2008 7:47 pm

A little background on me: I've been on cpap for 9 months now and love it, but I have hit that stage where you seem to regress and feel tired and slow of mind. I've started snoreing again with my current machine. I am waiting for my software to get here so I can know what I am doing when I adust it. I wish that I knew that cpap.com was selling it again, because I ordered mine from Australia.

I am about to get new insurance through Kaiser, and I really want to upgrade from my straight cpap to an apap. Any suggestions about how to work the system to get what I need? I'm just trying to make sure I take the right approach to get the Dr. to prescribe me the right machine.

Anybody go through this with Kaiser before me, and get what they want?

Hey, if you didn't have Kaiser before, what do they know that you are already on CPAP? Just 'cause you were given a script for one some time ago don't count. IF the ordering doc is your sleep doc and he won't write the order for what you want. Forget him, get your family doctor to write the script you want.

Ooops. Nine months. Is the original machine paid in full or is there some still owing on it? That Elite is worth keeping, even if only as a backup, if you can.

Does Kaiser give out anything besides Remstar basics?

Is Kaiser even going to script that?

I hear Kaiser is scary to deal with.

Get a script out of your old doc and buy what you want online.

First, when I was getting my machine through Aetna insurance, the DME accidentally put me in with the Kaiser people for my training session. They all had M series auto machines. As soon as they realized I wasn't Kaiser, they pulled me and told me to come back next week for the other class. I pitched a fit and got someone to give me my machine and a quick how to lesson. My machine was the big basic regular - no auto from Aetna. I asked why and he said that is what my insurance pays for.

I transferred to Kaiser after having had my machine only 3 months. I told my new Kaiser doctor I needed a new machine since I had to turn the other one back in to Aetna and he said fine, and wrote exactly what I asked him to on the script. My policy does not cover DME at all, so I ended up paying for it, but he wrote it exactly as I asked.

I suggest doing just what I did. Just ask!

I have had my old Dr. send a prescription to cpap.com, and I will use them if I have to. I just wanted to see if I could get Kaiser to hook me up with a nice apap on the cheap. Maybe naive, but it never hurts to try, right? See if I can cut my costs a little bit.

Ohh, and I'm keeping my S8! Believe you me! I don't even know if I will like a new apap, but my never ending quest for the perfect nights sleep has been fueled by my recent sleepiness and snoreing. I like the S8 but I'm looking for even better.

I hope to get back on track once my software gets here and I can really see whats going on with out waiting a month to get in to see the Doc.
