Comfort Curve vs. ComfortGel vs. Nasal Pillows

Post by sleepygalpa » Thu Jun 02, 2005 9:10 am

I currently have a ComfortGel mask which is.....ok but I'm starting to find it bulky/heavy. I have used it for 4-6 weeks. I'm beginning to wonder about the Comfort Curve or nasal pillows. Everyone please give me your comments. I know it's an individual thing but I will value your opinions.

Take a look at the ResMed Swift or the AEIOMed aura or the Puritan Bennett Breeze. You will find the are all much less obtrusive and provide an experience that is more like normal sleep and less like spending a night in intensive care.

I switch between the Aeomed Aura and the Comfort Curve. Both are good IMO.

I've been on CPAP for 3 years. Just got a Comfort Curve today. Couldn't be more disappointed. It's a piece of garbage.

Your mileage may vary.

I started with a ComfortGel and found it too darned heavy, switched to a ComfortLite and liked it for the most part other than the fact that even the smallest interface wound up pressing into the insides of my eyes (and here I always thought I had a big face!), but the ComfortCurve has been a mixed blessing. Everything you have heard is true - it's a pain to get adjusted right, the fit may change nightly, and I spend a fair amount of time replacing my Saran Wrap gaskets (just saw the note on plumber's tape, going to try that - idea had crossed my mind!), BUT I do find it very comfortable otherwise. I like not having stuff over my eyes and two sets of straps over my head. I wouldn't return mine, but I do wish it were better. Definitely, though, ditch the Gel and look into a lighter-weight mask.

Comfort Curve vs. ComfortGel vs. Nasal Pillows

Hi... Pennsylvania is it?:D

I started with the Swift nasal pillows, but found that they leaked a lot, and then discovered that my nose is asymmetrical in shape and in muscling, so the "mask" was mashing one side of my nose!

Then I was given the F-P FlexiFit HC405 and fell in love right away. Compared to the Swift, this thing was SILENT! The HC405 is a very small nasal mask with very few removable parts (seal, cushion that does not get washed, and two tiny cushions for the forehead that can stay on or be removed for washing - I leave them on and wash the whole thing.)

Right now I use the pillows for naps and the mask for nighttime usage.

Don't want to dispense with the pillows altogether because I feel I need to have an alternative to fall back on - just in case.

Good luck making your choice!

- JB

I started out on the Comfort Gel, but the bridge of my nose is very sensitive and was getting very sore. Got the Breeze with the nasal pillows and it is FANTASTIC. Much better compliance even though I am just kicking off my second week.

I do find the nasal pillows are starting to irritate me after a couple of days of consecutive usage, but I think swithcing back and forth between the two on a regular rotation will be the right combo.

I tend to roll slightly to my left and right in my sleep and the Breeze does not seem to be affected.

Zap_nea! What a cool nickname.

Breeze with nasal pillows is one of my longtime favorites, too. Great for side sleeping and tossing/turning.
