What is a 'good' LPM range?

Post by MichaelGettel » Mon Nov 26, 2007 10:43 pm

Hello!

So, I'm trying to get use to all this new vocabulary and impress my Doc on my 30 day check-up. Would someone mind explaining LMP and could you give me a ball park figure of a good LMP number, and how to interpret what my CPAP is currently reporting(I think it's 33)?
Thanks!
Michael

The mask's exhaust vent is a "normal" leak. The vent (exhaust) flow rate of different masks varies. If you have the package insert for your mask, there's usually a chart on it showing how many liters per minute is the normal leak for that mask at various pressures. A leak rate above what it should be is what to think about. If it's just a little bit over, no big deal. If it's a LOT over, there could be some mouth breathing (if not wearing a full face mask) or mask cushion leaks.

As a general ballpark figure, using a Respironics machine and the usual pressure most people are prescribed (probably pressures of 7 - 15), I think any leak rate under 40 l/m is ok.

If you have a Respironics machine that can report full data (any Respironics machine that doesn't have "Plus" in its name) and if you bought the card reader and the software (EncoreViewer) to see your own full data in the "Daily Details" graph, you'd get a much better idea of how your leak rate and other info looks.

You've got the Aussie heated hose, I see. You're ahead of the curve! That should impress your doctor. I'll bet he's not heard of that.

Hope things go well at your doctor's appointment.
