Did you get to keep your mask?

Post by tbone106 » Sat May 21, 2005 9:33 pm

I had a Mirage Vista Mask for the sleep study, not a bad mask. I didn't ask, the center didn't offer, but I would have like to have kept the mask.

They opened a new bag so I'm sure its only one use per patient and would have to pitch it afterward. I'm also sure, the INSURANCE paid for it.

They gave me mine when I was done. Ins. definately paid for it. They are not allowed to use it someone else.

This is incorrect. They can be safely sterylized and used repeatedly for different patients.

When I had my sleep test I did not see them open a new package, they just had a nasal mask lying on the nightstand by the cpap machine. I tried it and told them that I had to breathe through my mouth. She brought back a fullface mask which was not in a package either. They probably do sterilize and use again. Do you suppose that's why they ask you to wash your face really well before you come ... that way the mask won't get makeup stains from the ladies and can be cleaned easier! Anyway I am sure sterilization works on these just as the tools in the dentist's office.

I think the face washing is so the sensors adhere to your face .

I was lucky - they sent me home with the mask I used during the titration and the other three that I had tried on while being fitted! With my bipap machine I received another but the first one I tried on is still my favorite. The tech that did my sleep study was wonderful and I see now that it made a huge difference.
