Or, as one new member suggested: cut a slit in the toes of several socks and slip over the tubing.

One may use various methods of keeping the sock ends together--DUCT TAPE comes to mind...

Otherwise, what Babette said is it! I need colors that match and nice fleece to soothe my senses. This is what helps me to sleep, under my 'designer' comforter. Image

Wish this topic had started before I wasted tons of fabric and velcro.. in my infinite wisdom I decided to sew velcro along the entire length of the tube (6ft)! well now I have a nice (read=crappy) hose cover that took hours to sew and looks so stupid, because the velcro is so thick it bulges, and it looks hilarious, and it's nowhere near 6ft because i got tired of sewing all that velcro on. DOH! I will try again with the other half of the fabric... sigh. (and someone throw me some duct tape over here !)

My hubby is ex air force. He was issues winter long jons. they are now my hose cover, as they are made to withstand any temperature. We are in North Dakota after all. Little of McGyvers duct tape and hubbys old skivvies and I am good to go.

Or, just to be different, we DO have a forum member (whose avatar is, by the way, a duck Image wrapped in duct tape!) who makes ComfortSleeves. They are hose cozies that keep the rainout at bay, and are also made for Aussie Heated Hoses. They are quality fleece in various colors and an occasional print.

Her screen name here is Offerocker. She hasn't been very active of late, possibly due to her family commitments. The web site is:

http://www.comfortsleeve.com

Cost depends on length--and I'd guess if you wanted something custom, she would do what she could to accommodate your requirements. I went to double check information on the web site, and if one buys 2 ComfortSleeves of the same size, there is a 20% discount on your order.

Something like...uh...um, sewing Velcro down the entire length of the hose cover? That MIGHT be a bit of a surcharge for added Velcro on the price.

How about 3 huge rolls?

Sounds like you might need all of them

"Everybody has matching hose socks..."

Post by DreamDiver » Fri Oct 12, 2007 9:25 pm

Babs, Birdshell, everyone,

I think of that B-52's song, "Rock Lobster" with the one line "Everybody has matching towels!" but instead: "Everyone has matching hose socks!"

I did think about the matching thing, but since I don't have designer anything and since I don't even take the time to make sure the sheets match the pillow cases, I probably am not going to worry too much about coordination of decor.

Long johns are a great answer to the hose sock thing, but for me, I have to admit, duct tape in the bed scene is a little in the realm of Babs' ball-gag. Not much sleep there...

Norseman, I think you'd need more than one bandage, but it might work. Alternatively, you could do a hybrid where you wrap the hose first in fleece or thermal underwear, then in an ace bandage instead of velcro or duct tape. Either way, I imagine it would be a lot less bendy - and with a heavier feel to it like a water hose. Have you tried it?

I have to admit, Offerocker's work puts my efforts to shame. She also offers monogramming for those of us who are design conscious.

I tried the sewing machine route, but fleece just doesn't seem to work on my wife's Singer either. It probably needs a different foot and a pressure change, and for that, I don't have enough practice or sewing savvy to figure it out. That's why I used string and a fat needle. Otherwise, I might have considered the velcro along the seam idea that echo suggested.

I made 2 long and one short hose socks. I'm going to take Bab's suggestion and scrunch them all onto the hose together with velcro secure ties.

I'll let everyone know the outcome tomorrow morning!

I ordered my hose cover from ComfortSleeves. I failed on the designer decorating scheme though. My bedroom actually IS totally coordinated - I'm a real girl in that realm, everything is matchy-matchy, but for some odd reason, I ordered (and am totally delighted with) a bright red hose cover! And there is nothing else in my entire room that is bright red. I guess if you have to use a CPAP, make it a darned vibrant one.

Rainout Results - about a teaspoon - not in my face

Post by DreamDiver » Sat Oct 13, 2007 7:31 am

Rainout Update:

I added the extra hose sock per Babette's suggestion and fastened it with another velcro tie. I made sure the heat was on since I knew it would get below 50F. I set the thermostat for 65F. The temp this morning in the bedroom was 68F, with a relative humidity of 52%.

I got a little rainout in the tube, but nothing directly on my face. I poured about a teaspoon of rainout into the since this AM, but didn't get rained on from my mask. Heck, I'm satisfied.

Under normal circumstances when the temp doesn't get too low, a hose sock does a fine job.

Sleeping Beauty: RED, hey? It seems as if that hose cover would really (in the annoying decorating tv show vernacular) POP!Image
