Need recommendation for full facemask for someone with beard

Post by Idget » Sat Oct 20, 2007 11:35 am

I have a Mirrage Quattro mask. Too early (one night) to tell whether good or bad, but it does seem to leak. Looking for recommendations from those with beards on a good full face mask.

Thanks in advance

I'm not "bearded" at this time, but have been in my pre-CPAP days.
If you do a search on "beard", I'm sure you'll find lots of discussions.
Many of those with facial hair that use full face masks, use the Quattro or the Ultra Mirage Full Face and seem to have good results. I'm sure it depends on how coarse or fine your beard is.....along with the length.

FFM for Beards

I have a beard that's trimmed pretty short and I had a big problem with my Quattro leaking too. To reduce the leaks I had to make the straps really tight and it was very uncomfortable. I am now using a ComfortFull 2 and don't have any more problems with leaks and my AHI averages about .8 now compared to 5 or 6 with the Quattro. Even more important, I find the ComfortFull 2 to be much more comfortable and I can sleep through the night with no problems now. I got my ComfortFull on the CPAP auction site and it was pretty inexpensive too.

During some military traing for gas masks, we would have a formation of men with masks on (this was Navy, and they allowed beards). Then some canisters of tear gas would be thrown into the formation.

In the cloud of gas, you could see the men with beards running out of the cloud choking, LOL.

Moral of the story is, beard, or survival.

Here is a new full head mask out just in time for Halloween and it looks like it would be beard friendly ...
