I did watch the entire video and it is a very interesting concept. I plan on watching the other videos when I have time. I did do the nose clearing exercise and will continue to try it. The part about breathing through my nose only for the next 24 hours will be a challenge. I have a chronic stuffy nose and catch myself mouth breathing a lot. My theory is that I have nothing to lose by trying this method and everything to gain. They do advocate that you continue your therapy whether it be asthma medicine, cpap etc while you are doing the exercises. So, I don't feel like that are proposing anything that would cause harm. I think it would be interesting to go through the course, retrain yourself in correct breathing technique and then after a time have another sleep study and see the results. Sounds promising.

Hi,

You are right....it does clean my nose blockages as well and now i am practicing to breath righ and for last few days my nose are cleared and now i am on the path to breath correctly.....very interesting we can now reset our nose blocks, and alos reset our lung...next reset our sleep apnea? Very interesting progression.

I don't know about you, but I had a hard time making myself breathe exclusively through my nose for 24 hrs. I kept "catching" myself breathing through my mouth. I guess this will take lots of practice for me to change the habit.

What a crock. Buteyko breathing does NOTHING for obsstructive sleep apnea!

Have you gone through the seminar and tried the exercises? Have you done extensive studies on it?

I figure if all it even does is to retrain me to breathe through my nose then that is a plus. I can go back to wearing nasal masks or pillows instead of full face masks. Soooo, I don't think it is totally without merit. Anything that gets you to breathe correctly and better is good even if you still are using your cpap machine for the rest of your life.

Hi,

Dont get upset mate. I found that many are breathing thru mouth as I am too. If you have hyperventilation either over breathing of oxygen (you feel dizzy try it yourself....a couple of big mount sucking it you will fell it) or lack of CO2 in your lungs....sme links and think. For first time in many years my block right nasil is breathing properly. After all you got nothing to loss for breathing correctly.

Dont just talk...talk and do the walk.

well McKooi that video is a great cure for insomnia

The content may be good (that I don't know) and even help, but their marketing and presentation of that "free" seminar (they must have repeated it was free info a dozen times during the first 5 minutes alone).

Then the switching back and forth from one seminar to another was I guess to wake you up if happened to doze off.

but there are other Buteyko sites that don't go on rambling for 20 or more minutes on how the procedure was found and repeating it was free.

Here is another site that offers a DVD for sale that claims it helps with asthma:
http://www.selfhelpasthma.co.uk/buy/

does it work? I have no idea, I dozed off in the video.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

Next time I'm congested, I will try the exercise they suggest to help you become unblocked and see how it works. I think nose breathing is a good idea, too. I may try it as a challenge.

My concern about that video was the suggestion that "if a person has only been using cpap for a year or two, there's nothing wrong with them trying to wean themselves off the machine" once they learn the exercises, techniques. I do find that irresponsble and potentially dangerous advice. The correct suggestion would be that once the person gets the technique to work successfully during the day, they should have a sleep study to see if the apnea is gone. If so, they can discontinue machine use. Another way to do this would be to progressively lower your settings if you had a data capable machine and could see that you needed less pressure over time. But going off the machine is a big red flag to me.

One thing I noticed about the video was the presenter's rather unusual breathing pattern. I think he was trying to avoid breathing in in when he talked, so would kind of sniff. It became very noticible once you saw it. I heard it first in his talking/breathing rhythm.

Buteyko for sale

I watched the video and looked at a few journal reviews. If it really works, I'd be willing to try it.

I might pay for a book and dvd if it was professionally produced. I'd rather try it in the privacy of my own home for under $25.
