Encore Software Unstable... Anyone Else...

Post by IWannaSleep » Wed May 11, 2005 10:37 pm

After 3 weeks on APAP I finally picked up the Encore Pro software w/usb card reader. I was so excited to see my detailed data, so began installing it right away, and that's when the excitement ended. On first try the install aborted halfway through. On the second try it installed successfully and I thought I was all set. I was able to install the cared reader and soon worked through a couple tutorials, downloaded all my data, and reviewed all the great information in there (my ahi is still 24, down from 45, but still far from good... explaining why I feel better, but not rested).

Now when trying to get back to work (i mainly work on my pc) I realize all is not well. Outlook and other applications were very unstable. My firewall and anti-virus had both been disabled. I decide i better uninstall encore, and I noticed there were seperate installations created for the card reader and 2 others for MSSQL. I am able to uninstall everything and went to do the card reader last. However, it will not uninstall itself since it's looking for Encore. What a mess... i'm not about to install encore and create more problems just to get rid of the card reader. So I manually go in and delete the card reader and while searching through folders I see newly installed spyware. So now i'm running my spy-ware programs and found a few newly created items.

Ok so now i'm still getting multiple errors on rebooting and cannot seem to aurorun anti-virus and firewall anymore. Luckily I had a good XP restore point and this seems to have resolved most of my problems.... most, there still seem to be some strange behavior, but I should be able to get back to normal from here.

On top of it all, I decided to initialize the card with all my data on it with my name and such, but of course that process wiped all my data off the card. and of course having to uninstall all the software I have now lost all my data for the last 3 weeks... except for what I remember.

Has anyone else experienced similar problems after installing encore pro?

I had problems initially installing but no problems after installed. Might note that when MSSQL Server is loaded (active so Encore Pro can load) that you have a new port open to the world. Very possible you got a new "visitor" from outside to your computer while its loaded and the instability is due to that not Encore Pro. Suggest you clean out all spyware and possible virus' first, then reinstall Encore Pro and card reader. Set up MSSQL Server to Not Load automatically at boot. That way you won't leave a new opening to your computer to the outside world. What I do to avoid this potential problem is to manually stop internet access with my firewall, start MSSQL manually, then open Encore Pro to read my data. Once I'm through looking at my data in Encore Pro I stop MSSQL. All extra steps but better to be safe.

Hope this works for you.

Thanks JL, I suspect you're right especially since noone else has had any similar problems. I also scanned the install disks and they appear clean. Going in I didn't realize Encore Pro was going to create such a complex install and load all the SQL stuff. It makes sense now that I think about it since they really have targetted cliinics for this software.

I've decided to try installing again but this time on a non critical system that I will take offline from my network prior to doing the install.
