Snoring and AHI

Post by geoDoug » Mon Aug 27, 2007 1:54 pm

I'm baffled by these numbers from last night. Can somebody explain these:

AHI: 1.9! (AI .9, HI.9--it's a rounding thing. )
Vibratory snoring index: 185.2 (YIKES! Insanely high even for me!)

Average leak: 41.03 (this is pretty close to the intentional leak rate for the Hybrid at my low pressure.)
Large leak: 0 minutes
There are no spikes at all in leaks.
Pressure: 6.5 (I upped it by half a centimeter about five days ago.)

Almost every other night, when my AHI goes down, so does my VSI. So what I don't understand is how the VSI could be off-the-charts but the AHI be so low at the same time. I know that there's a "sweet spot" for AHI. Is there also for snoring? Could somebody explain those numbers to me?

While I'm at it, I've searched but haven't found what would count as an "acceptable" VSI. I assume that's probably as subjective as the AHI, but I'd love to know what other people consider normal or low--or just plain good. Can somebody help me out there?

Doug.

PS I sleep on my back. I have to, because sleeping on my side or tummy destroys my neck.

If it matters, my VSI varies quite a bit, but is always between 20 and 60.

Doug, is it possible that your VSI is coming from your hose rubbing on your headboard or bed?? With a great AHI like that and a low leak rate, something strange is going on.

Good luck figuring this out.

Oooh. That's a good point. I hadn't thought of that one.

I just moved in a new bedside nightstand yesterday and had to disconnect everything to get it there. It doesn't look like the hose is anywhere near the new nightstand, but it is oriented differently to the bed than before. Before the front of the machine was facing the bottom of the bed. Now the back is pointing to the bed. I wonder if the extra slack in the hose is resulting in it hanging down and brushing against the edge of the table. Maybe I'll try rotating the machine back to the way it was before.

Doug.

Sometimes I'm a genius! Or at least so my wife says. (That's usually after I've come up with some culinary creation that's a knock-out, though. )

Good luck!
