ResMed Looking for Stories of Women and Weight Loss on Cpap

Post by socknitster » Fri Aug 17, 2007 7:19 pm

This may have been posted already. I don't get a lot of extra time to read everything anymore. I just got this in my email today:
We have recently been contacted by a national magazine looking for a testimonial from a woman who has overcome sleep apnea and undergone significant weight loss as a result of increased energy and alertness on CPAP therapy. In particular, they are looking for a middle-aged woman (30s to 40s) who has lost at least 50 lbs since being on CPAP. If you or anyone you know fits the bill, please send a summary of your story including before and after photos to bettertogether@resmed.com
. Stories must be received by Monday, August 20th. Due to the high volume of respondents, we will not be able to respond to all participants. However, if your story is selected, a media relations professional will contact you. Thanks for your interest and participation. We look forward to receiving your responses. Best regards, The MyResMed team
I don't qualify--YET! But I'll bet there are some of you who do! I do disagree that comment that 30's to 40's is middle aged. I consider a woman middle aged after childbearing is done--more around 50. I cringe at the thought that anyone thinks of me as middle aged. Of course, it was just a thousand or so years ago that people rarely lived past 35, so I guess I shouldn't complain too much!

Weight loss with CPAP

Post by kteague » Sat Aug 18, 2007 6:26 pm

Hmmmm, if I could lose 40 more pounds by the August 20 deadline I'd respond...

Sure would love to read the stories that do get submitted though.

Kathy

i think the distribution of body fat is more important than the weight.

the waist/hip ratio is proving increasingly a good indicator for health problems (I'll find a ref if you want)

I was sooooo happy yesterday in the changing room at the gym when I caught sight of my waistline. Not posing or pulling anything in, just accidentally caught sight of it in the mirror.

But yes, to increase awareness/motivation a "weight loss" story will be more effective.

Ohhh, "The CPAP Diet" breathe as much as you want and still lose weight .

Seriously, I think it's a fabulous idea. If it works, it will be sure to show up everywhere. It will hit the news with women as the target group which is a good thing given the fact that many of the articles said it was a men's thing.

Women, and men along with them, will flock to the sleep clinics and will likely be compliant. After all, cosmetic surgery is very popular, and look at the cost and pain of that.

I agree about the waist/hip ratio, Moby. But awareness right now is where we need to go.

Good for you--i hope you submit!

I hope to see my waist hip ratio go in the right direction soon. It is woefully a 1 to 1 ratio right now!

(BTW, I notice a number of you in this thread have Respironics machines)

I think it would be funny if those who wished to report it to ResMed would say something like:

"Yep, I lost XX+ pounds using my ResMed/REMstar machine because I had the software to monitor and tweak my therapy. My doctor was way off on my titration/prescription and neither he/she nor the DME cared to follow up on my therapy and progress, so I did this all on my own. They tried to give me a low-end machine that didn't have any sleep detail reporting capabilities, but I got a better one anyway......it made all the difference in the world. Without it, I probably would have given up on this therapy."

Well....if ya wanna "poke 'em in the eye with a sharp stick".....here's your chance.

I sure hope that Resmed is paying for these stories. Do they need a prescription to get these stories? Can we be on the $$$ recieving end for a change?
