Comfort Curve mask flimsy Y-tubing

Post by Nodzy » Mon Aug 13, 2007 4:59 pm

I like the Comfort Curve mask from Respirionics. It is one mask that I can wear without major discomfort, interference with glasses or that face-trapped feeling. I have had my Comfort Curve mask for about eight months.

Today I noticed that there was a small amount of air blowing on my right cheek while the nasal cushion was fully seated without any leak. Upon inspecting the mask with system pressure and my thumb covering the nasal pillow, I discovered a tiny tear in the first coil of the right side of the Y-tubing just at the mask rigid inlet tube.

In looking for a replacement online I discovered that I can not buy just the Y-tubing. The tubing is sold as a tubing set, which includes the Y-tubing and the 6-foot main tubing that connects from the Y-tubing to the machine. That, to me, is a ripoff. The main tubing for this mask is proprietary and fits only the Comfort Curve mask tubing set because of the odd female connector on the end connecting to the odd male connector on the Y-tubing.

Too, the Y-tubing at the mask inlet parts seemed to be too thin as compared to the rest of the tubing. It certainly was, is, too thin and easily fails after repeated crinkling from movement.

Respironcis needs to address that shoddy tubing materials problem. And they should make the Y-tubing available as a piece separate from the main tubing for this mask.

It seems utterly absurd to have to order a complete tubing set, and have a leftover spare 6-foot tube that can not be used with any other mask, just to get a replacement Y-tubing that appears to be failure prone by poor design or manufacturing problems.

Still, I really like this simple mask and will order the over-priced tubing set, just so I can have the Comfort Curve as an optional mask, which I use several nights per week on average. <sigh>

Could you find some food/water grade silicone tubing that would work maybe? Just a thought.

I use that mask (and love it) too. Never had issues wit the tubing myself.

As far as being a 'ripoff' is concerned, I doubt the tubing - even with the extra bit you don't need - costs a lot of money. How much do they charge you?

Also, I believe it hasn't bene that long since they first launched it so maybe it's still under warranty,
