New Style Humidifier Tanks for older Remstar Series

Post by Malibu » Wed Jul 18, 2007 8:18 am

Hello all..

I had my humidifier tank replaced yesterday and noticed it is not quite the same as the original that has the seal on the unit. This tank has the seal on the tank along with a flapper thingy and a small cover that has air slits cut into it.

Has anyone else used this new tank style? I still can't figure out why they changed the design. I guess the flapper might keep moisture out of the unit but adding the extra air slits makes me wonder what they are trying to achieve. It also mentioned the "auto start" feature may not work properly with the new design...with air slits at the tank, I can see why that may be a problem.

I figured the Remstar Classis Series (I have the Remstar Auto with C-Flex) was being replaced by the M series and was trying to figure out why they were investing money in an older design.

Thanks,

Malibu (Marc)

They are just trying to make a product less likely to pass water into the blower. Even though the "Classic" may be phased out, products need to be supported for up to ten years. I see no need for changing the design, whats needed is smarter users, it's not hard to keep the water out of the "Classic", just a small dose of common sense. I don't think the vent stopping the auto restart of the machine is a good idea, it leads to more danger than the non-existent water problem they were trying to fix. Big Companies, everyone thinking , but no-one smartly. Jim

If Remstar set up a "Common Sense Dept", and hired me to run it every XPAP with data card sold would come with the reader, and Encore Pro included, it would add less than $50, to the price of the machine, and would still beat Resmed's Prices.

Good point...

I assume they tested the equipment for air flow impedement...the hole is about half the size it was before using the new plug-in valve assembly. I guess the slits could be sealed off easy enough with some tape to make sure the auto start feature would function correctly.

I would also assume the machine would make up for the air leak, and the entrance being about half the dimension it was before the new design.

I can see the reason for the flapper trying to keep water out of the unit, but not sure what the vent slits are for???

Is this newer than when they installed the removable baffle a year ago?

That one I just took out. I agree, be a smart user. Really tough to get the water out with that baffle in there in the rare case where I rinse the thing out
or when I am emptying it to travel.

I am glad I bought a couple spare tanks so I don't have to deal with this new "improvement" for quite a while if ever.

It's nice to have spares, in this world nothing stays the same. This is a new tank that just hit the market. I would guess the vent slots are to allow the water vapor out of the tank when the blower is off, if the flapper worked correctly it wouldn't matter, it would stay sealed, also if it was made correctly the air flow would push the flapper to cover the vents, so extra air leaking wouldn't occur. It's bad enough dealing with excessive mask leaks without adding another leak source. I haven't seen the new tank, but I think your spare idea is a good one. Jim

yes I tend to be a hoarder. Two classic autos, a couple tanks, some swift pillows, we won't even talk about favorite underware items that inevitably they discontinue

I am happier when I am not worried about "improvements" to something that is already fine.
