leg restlessness

Post by TennJane » Wed Apr 13, 2005 9:06 pm

Can anyone help me????

I have been given Mirapex by my doctor for "periodic leg movement syndrome".....has anyone ever had this diagnosis....and does anyone know anything about Mirapex....(I have been told it is a drug normally perscribed for Parkinson's Disease)

Any information would be appreciated....

My doctor did the same thing for me and I have been on it for 4 months. I believe it has been helping me. It is a very common use for it.

You may want to try taking Folic Acid in 1MG dose for a week or so.

I find this relieves my symptoms when they flare up.

A lack of Iron has also been linked with this condition.

When I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea, they also noted some periodic leg movements as well. That doesn't bother me so much as the more frequent charlie horses that have been waking me up during my sleep. Normally I sleep very well with the mask except for the occasional charlie horse and the sneezing when I am not sleeping.

Try taking magnesium right before you go to bed

Post by meister » Fri Apr 15, 2005 11:07 am

I read about it and tried it. It worked for me. Magnesium is
really inexpensive at any drug store (OTC). Try it for a couple
of nights. If you are really interested, go see an Endocrinologist
and get a workup from a 24 hour urine study and blood draw for
all your hormone and blood levels of things like calcium, postassium,
etc. You may be a bit out of kilter. My doctor recommend 10 minutes
of leg stretches every night before trying to sleep. They seem to
help, as well.

I was prescribed Mirapex for Restless Leg Syndrome. I took it for a couple of weeks but it had the side-effect of keeping me awake The doc moved me to Neurontin and that has worked fine.

Restless Leg Syndrome

I suffer from RLS, but mine occurs at different times, not necessarily at night. Sometimes I feel like I am going to scream. There is Parkinson's in my family and have heard that RLS is linked to this. Xanac is the only thing that has helped me, but I only take it as a last resort. I did have 18 leg movements per hour during sleep study. I was also going to join a RLS study but would have had to quit taking antidepressant, and I felt that that was not an option for me at this time. Excersise has not helped me either, but stretching does. Maybe with cpap my RLS will get better. I hope so. Good luck.

I just had my first night of sleep study. My questions is, when I have the gastric bypass surgery and lose weight, will I still have to wear this equipment? I have not received all results, but oxygen level did go down to 76. That they did not like.

I have RLS and I was prescribed Requip. I am now up to 2 1mgs in the AM, 1mg mid afternoon and 2 1mgs at bed time. If I don't, my legs will jump allover the place especially at the wrong time.

TennJane,
I also have RLS (58 per hr at PSG) and I take Neurontin at night, a couple hours before bed time. It has really helped me.
