Ultra Mirage Full Face mask whistles!

Post by SleepyGuy » Fri Apr 15, 2005 11:13 pm

I have a Resmed Ultra Mirage Full Face mask. When I put it on, it whistles for about 15 or 20 minutes. The whistle comes from the anti-asphyxiation valve. I e-mailed cpap.com customer support. They told me to take it apart and clean it. I did, but it still whistles. This is very annoying.

What else can I do? I like the mask. I didn't think I would ever get used to a full face mask, but this is comfortable and it comes off easily which helps me not feel claustrophobic.

Solution?

This is apparently a common complaint. Mine does this, usually at lower pressures (as when I'm ramping up) - I don't seem to have that problem one the pressure goes over 15 or so. But something that seems to work at lower pressures for me is to disconnect the hose from the mask and, with my finger wipe a little water all over the fitting on the end of the tube. It seems this little added moisture helps seal the connection a little better.

you might want to consider tightining your straps where it is leaking for the whale whistle

I know where you are talking about. The exhaust post whistles. Resmed has a customer/tech. service department, so I suggest you call them and talk to them about it. At the very least, they are good at really listening to customer complaints and suggestions and improving their equipment. I'm going to talk to them about your issue and also the fact that I've had had part of the headpiece break on two masks, so it needs to be strenghtened.

Thanks. Between this thread and the other on this subject, I hope I can find a way to make this work. I really like the mask otherwise.

Thanks! I called the Resmed customer service number and they were very helpful. They confirmed what I suspected. The problem is the membrane in the anti-asphyxiation valve. They are Fed-Exing me a new membrane.

I'm really hoping this is it. I really like the mask otherwise. If I can use this, I can skip the nasal surgery which I will need to use nasal masks.
