Swift II and leaks

Post by swall » Wed May 30, 2007 10:05 am

Hi all,
I got a Swift II about a month ago and love it, however I cleaned it last night and it started leaking around where the tube comes off the side. I checked and I put it together correctly. If I moved the tube to a different direction it stopped leaking, but as I was sleeping the tube/hose moved and it woke me up several times. The tube/hose rotates in a 360 way, so I do not understand why it would leak at some points and not others. Any one have any suggestions?

Leak!

Post by ufo13 » Wed May 30, 2007 10:32 am

Sue:

There is a simple fix for that-Just go to the $1 store or hardware store and get some Plumbers TEFLON TAPE! Wrap the connection you describe and snap it back together and your leaks will be gone! While you are at it do the other side (small plug) to!

Hope this helps,

Steve,

I had the same leak issue with the Swift. Tape probably would work; just make sure no stinky/harmful solvents.

That leak was what moved me to the comfortgel. much less leakage.

My Swift II leaks there too. Sometimes it was the headgear rings and sometimes it's the hose elbow joint.

Teflon tape is the cure! If not familiar, this "tape" is very thin, silky-like and fills small pipe threading gaps so faucets and shower heads etc won't leak. It can be found in the plumbing dept of your favorite hardware store.

Use a small piece 2 - 2 1/2" and wrap around the hose elbow (put some on the blue end cap too), be careful not to go over the edge and obstruct air flow. I put a strip over the nasal pillows also and pop them back into the clip, again be careful and don't block the vent holes.

-Cheers

Great post! I have the problem with the Swift II and find myself waking up and "pinching" both ends. That stopped the leaks but only temporarily. The leaks are small but annoying. I'll use plumber's tape before bed tonight! Thanks

Rich,
I taped the ends last night with the teflon tape and it made a big difference. A terrific fix, I didn't wake up once to adjust. It was a very quiet night. Makes me happy

I just bought a Swift II this afternoon. The med store gave me a return option by Monday 5 PM. If it leaks like yours should I just take it back and try another brand mask?

Mr.Frog
The nice thing about the tape is that is it easily removed, there is no stickiness to teflon tape. If you have it for a couple of nights you will get a good feel if you like the mask. If after one night you find the leaks annoying you could tape it for the next night. Having it until Monday will give you 3 nights to try it helping you to decide if a nasal mask is for you. The first week I had the Swift II there were no leaks. Maybe you'll luck out and during your trial period you won't experience any. Good Luck!
