Finally got my cheque from the Insurance

Post by ldemmery » Sat Apr 09, 2005 1:55 pm

Yep, live in Ottawa, Ont. Canada. My insurance (since Nov.) has been giving me hastles concerning my claim with them. Here's some advice.

1. Make sure on your receipt you submit (if you've already paid for it) says Paid in Full or has some indication ie: Interact paid showing you've paid it. (I had to go back to the DME to get a receipt twice because they forgot to put that on the bill)

2. Call first to make sure what the insurance company needs to make the claim work.

3. Make sure they have your doctor's diagnosis and test results (they told me they needed it thank god ahead of time).

4. When you talk with an insurance person on the phone, get names, I ended up dealing with one person directly when she saw the problems I was having.

5. I'm covered 100% with no deductable. But it doesn't cover service charges. My DME charged a $60 service charge, which I wasn't aware of until I saw the itemized Bill. My insurance didn't cover that so I was $60 out, small expense, but big if you don't have that extra money to spend.
