New CPAP User - Just Downloaded First REMstar Data

Post by MarcG » Thu Apr 07, 2005 5:07 pm

! started CPAP therapy about two weeks ago. Apria set me up with a REMstar Auto w/CFLEX. Not terribly impressed with the technician. (I've gotten more accurate information here.) Mask is Ultra Mirage Nasal.

I purchased the EncorePro product and installed it tonight. Now I have a ton of data that I will share in a moment. Is there any use in sending this data to the sleep doctor for a read, or should I wait for Apria to send the data to him? (BTW, the technician strongly discouraged me from getting the software.)

Average obstructive apnea index = 2.8
Average hypopnea index = 3.7
AHI = 6.5

Average snore index = 21.7
Average leak = 35.5
Average 90% leak = 47.5

Pressure @ 90% = 12cm H2O
Mean pressure = 9.1
Peak average pressure = 15.6
My sleep has been more restful with CPAP, but I'm not feeling terribly well rested. The AHI of 6.5 is certainly better than the untreated AHI of 15.5, but 6.5 is higher than I thought it would be.

I have no idea what the snore index means, but 3/4's of the snore events took place at relatively low pressures (<=7cm).

Anyway, any thoughts would be appreciated. I will, of course, seek advice from my sleep doctor and the respiratory therapist at Apria. But thoughtful comments here will also be helpful. Thanks in advance.

What is your pressure range set to? You might find if the lower pressure is raised a bit, the Hypopneas will be reduced, and often the Apneas drop a bit too... Can't comment on the leak on the mask as I don't know the leak rate for that mask, would have to see the graph to see if there is a problem.
