Respironics Comfort Gel mask?

Post by john44077 » Sat Apr 14, 2007 1:37 pm

How quiet is this mask? Does the gel mask help stop air leaks? Just looking in trying something else out. Thank's.

I use it all the time it's pretty quiet. What I don't like about the vent, it hits the covers and bounces off. I think they couldn't have made it cheaper or they would. Never the less it works well for me, you just have to deal with mouthbreathing. Mine fit without reworking the gel to fit. Jim

Mask for side sleepers?

Post by john44077 » Sat Apr 14, 2007 1:54 pm

Hi Jim .
I am using the Soyala Nasal Mask. I have had some air leak issue's over the last few nights. Was starting to sleep all night with keeping the mask on and now the last 3 nights. I have woken 2-3 times and the darn mask is off. I have noticed that when i try to sleep on my side i get air leaks. So i am now questioning if i need a new mask (i have been on cpap with this mask for the 5 weeks i have been on cpap) or is it something else going on. I much prefer to sleep on my side. There was a comment about the comfort gel being noisy on the cpap.com review. Thanks

John

My hubby uses this mask and has no issues with it.It is quiet and he has no leak issues at all. He is a back and a side sleeper. They tried this one out on my daughter too until we decided she is a mouth breather.

The ComfortGel has been improved over the first one that came out. Sealing wise it is pretty good. Noise wise it is pretty lousy. There are much quieter masks.

Without a doubt the Soyala nasal is the quietest mask out there. It seals pretty good can irritate your nose if you don't have it adjusted right, it has a lot of adjustments so you just keep working with it until you find the right settings. It has slots that you have to move and like 9 different settings but once you find the one that works it never moves from there.

Leaks with Soyala: My first Soyala nasal would come unscrewed during sleep. I guess I would roll over and was pretty good doing it where it unscrewed the retaining ring from the mask, I would wake up to find the hose and elbow on the floor with me still wearing the mask. I contacted Somnotech they sent me another. I just got out the hot glue and put a dollup of glue at the top of the ring and it stopped that.

Elbow leaks: If you push "in" on the Soyala elbow it WILL leak, The elbow is actually like a "ball" it allows the hose to pivot in all directions out to about 30 degrees much more than any mask out there (that was appearently what I was doing during sleep to unscrew the elbow, I would extend the hose I guess then roll over which unscrewed the ring).

I hang on to the hose like you would snug up a tie, I bring the hose under the pillow so it doesn't drop to the floor on the side and pull on the mask. I guess I need some kind of hose guide like a planter hook but I don't want my bedroom looking like a circus.

But as far as leaks from cushion to face, I've had the lowest leak rate there of any mask I have ever used in the last 6 years.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...
