Creepy crawlers in the mask.

Post by Erin_Belli » Tue Mar 13, 2007 7:40 pm

I've lived out in the country enough to know it's a wise idea to shake out my shoes before putting them on. I got to thinking something similar about my mask and hose. I clean the mask every morning, then let it sit out all day, connected to the hose. Suppose some creepy crawler creeps in there and I don't see him? If I put on the mask and rely upon the automatic start-up feature, that bug's gonna go right up my nose. So now I turn the blower on manually and let it run for about a minute before I put the mask on.

Don't mean to scare anyone unnecessarily, but with Spring around the corner, maybe it would be good for everyone to take this precaution.

Oh my goodness, Jim, that was quite a post from 2005. I'm just shy of a week on CPAP, and was wondering when my laziness was going to kick in and I'd stop disconnecting my hose and hanging it up to dry, emptying the humidifier, and washing my mask every day. Now I know the answer - NEVER! Now I can add running the pump for a few minutes before putting it on to the list. Thanks for the heads up, Erin.

Hey JimW,
Thanks for the thread. So a bug up the nose DOES happen. And sure enough, it is getting to be cockroach season out here. As well as spider season, scorpion season, centipede season, and vinagaroon season.
No more automatic startups for me. I'm going to keep blowing that hose out manually.

I hang my hose up during the day so it will air out. I can't imagine how any bug would end up in the tube unless it flew there. I keep track of my numbers, and letting the unit run with the hose disconnected would make for a serious "maximum leak" number!

Ick, ick, ick!!! I hate cockroaches! I would have had to get up and sterilize the whole machine, change the sheets, change my pjs and everything. Ewwww!

Okay, now I'm going to change my routine. Instead of hanging my mask and hose over the shower nozzle to dry, I'm going to buy one of those tight woven mesh bags that zip shut and put it in there to hang and dry. At least I won't have any large critters making themselves at home.

Thank you for posting this so I could read it instead of experience it! Again....EWWWW!
