Humidifier Condensation - Respironics M-Series

Post by SelfDirected » Tue Mar 13, 2007 1:40 am

Folks,

For the past several months I have been using a Respironics M-Series Auto. My life is much better thanks to the therapy. After a few shake-down weeks, I have had no problems sleeping with the M-Series or my Swift Mirage; nor my ComfortCurve. My wife even finds the white-noise of the exhaust ports comforting; and now has to have a white-noise generator in the room so she can sleep when I am traveling. (It must be noted that for 10 years prior to my going on therapy we slept in separate rooms due to my snoring.) But there is an issue I have been having with the M-Series; internal condensation in the humidifier. This is not to be confused with rain-out from condensation in the hose. The issue I am having is condensation inside the humidifier enclosure itself. It is so severe that I have to keep a towel under the unit to keep from having a puddle each morning. This is especially a problem on those 15+ days per month that I am traveling. Even with the reservoir out, I still have water pouring out of the unit when I go to pack it up.

As this has occurred in varied climate/temperature/humidity ranges, and with different humidifier settings, I have about decided it is a design issue. But, before going forward on that belief, I'd like to ask if any other M-Series users have experienced the same issue. And, if they have, what did they do to eliminate the problem.

If I can eliminate the condensation issue, dealing with my apnea will be no problem. Should it prove to not be an isolated problem, I am going to “encourage” Respironics to address it. Any feedback from my fellow M-Series users will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I have this same machine, and my humidifier on 5 with no leaks. The first batch of humidifier tanks for the M Series machines leaked. It's a defect in your humidifier tank and the tank should be replaced. Contact your DME (they should fix it for free if you're renting) or order a replacement somewhere else and you should be good to go.

I run mine on 3 and I've never had a problem either.

Thanks,
Water inside the tank housing??
Water on your night stand if you move the machine?

Condensation is probably from a TANK leak. The M series has been plauged with them since its release. Contact whomever you bought it from for a free replacement tank. The tank is more likely to leak if you have taken it apart, it only leaks when pressure is applied (doesn't leak when it is out of the machine). I found it leaks next to the green little tank lock.

The problem is from a bad injection mold at Respironics.

they also claim the water on your night stand is from a leaking swivel elbow, the condensation in the hose from rainout running back to the machine and leaking from the swivel elbow. Instead of giving you an elbow that doesn't swivel, they don't give you anything at all. With the design of that machine, without that elbow, you can no loner put it close to your wall so it takes up even more room.

This is why the Respironics M series machine and the Design team at Respironics has earned my Dr. Peter Farrell award:

Using m machine, no leaks no problems. Talk to supplier DME or where ever you got it from, somethings not right there. Must have a defective tank.
They will resolve this for you.
