Teflon tape, Air leaks

Post by Hurricane » Sun Mar 11, 2007 9:12 am

Have a Swift nasal pillow system, and at connections to the pillow block, get occasional air leakage, not large ones but sometimes noticable, anyone use plumbers teflon tape to cure this, or do you see any issues that I don't see.

All the plumbers teflon tape I've used is non-stick, thats the idea of teflon. I don't see how it would stick on the mask. Jim

Jim, the area I need to use it on is where the hose snaps into the block, like male, female connection, don't want it to stick just seal, its a joint that I will be separating it to clean mask. Its not an area that will come in contact with my face, or skin, was wondering if anyone has tried it, and any health issues involved with the teflon concerns nowdays.

Just using it as a shim. It seems pretty stable, low smell, used in plumbing for drinking water. I was thinking people wanted to use it between the mask and face, I wondered how it would stick. They do make a liquid paste but I wouldn't want that on me, and it really makes a mess. Jim

If you stretch the teflon tape does it not kind of stick to itself? Hurricance - I think for what you want to do it will work.

Just a shim, Jim, kinda sounds like a slim Jim.

telfon tape with air leaks

Post by dwilson » Sun Mar 11, 2007 1:12 pm

I had a hose break almost in two.

I wrapped saran wrap, then masking tape - kept it real tight - worked.

Good luck.

It doesn't stick to it's self by sticky, it's more of the air being forced out between layers of thin plastic, like those 2 mil trash bags you can't get open. Jim

Teflon Tape

Post by bunker » Sun Mar 11, 2007 8:05 pm

Hurricane,
I have used the teflon tape on my Swift now for about a year and am very happy with it. It certainly has stopped those little leaking whistles you get. I just use one or two wraps around all bits that plug in including the end of the hose. I have found that this also firms everything up nicely and stops the barrel from rotating and loosing the seal. My logic is the same as Goofproof in that plumbers use it liberally, we all drink the water, and it isn't changed anywhere near as often as on my mask (sort of weekly).
Regards,
Archie.
