CPAP Encomium!

Post by VancouverBreeze » Mon Mar 28, 2005 2:56 am

Ok...I'm trying to drive up hits for dictionary.com with that title!!

Word of the day CPAP style!

Anyhow, it means 'commendation'! And that's just what I have for CPAP.

Though things are less blissful in this lotusland of hoseheads....
My breeze is taking my hair...and setting it off in the breeze.
So I tried another mask that has a little less headgear...comfort select...which for me means...select leaks in the eyes or a gaping wound on the bridge of my nose!! Not a great selection!

Anyone else reaching for something different in the buffets of masks?

And things get better...CPAP is so successful at helping me get into REM sleep that lately I've become an incorrigible mouth breather!! Yes, I too am totally aghast at the failure of the CPAP industry to deal with the bitter-bliss they offer me...put me to sleep...and wake me up...credit card in hand anxiously running after yet another new 'solution'! Luckily, my DME lets me return masks....kinda yuck...but I'll just continue to believe that MY masks are new, and not returns !!

Not a rant, not a cry for help in the darkness. Just the late night meanderings of a mouthbreathing CPAPing hosehead in Vancouver. Sleep well hosers!!

Well, lets see. For the mouth breathing, replacing your normal "chap stick" with a "glue stick" may help.

Mask-wise, it's been said lots of times, but the "Comfort" in a certain brand of mask's name is a cruel irony, because they definitely are not.

If you need a full face mask, try the ResMed Ultra Mirage. It's not perfect, but among full face masks, it is the current gold standard.

If you can find a way (chin strap, medical tape, sutures) to keep your mouth closed and want to try another nasal interface like the Breeze but with less of an effect on that most precious of nature's resources, hair, try the Swift. It doesn't have the head piece that the Breeze or Aura do, and about half of the users of nasal pillows on this board prefer the Swift as their favorite, the other half the breeze. (Well, now the aura may be taking some of each camp, but I suspect more of the breeze camp than the swift, because it's got similar headgear to the breeze).

Good luck!

Liam, still sealing his lips with... oh, who is he kidding, his lips haven't been sealed since he learned to talk.

I too, have been having problems with mouth leaks...ugh. I have the Ultra Mirage FF, and I love it, but I can't wear it daily as my nose is sore. I put on the Aura last night to start and started to have mouth leaks when it ramped up...I love the Aura - but couldn't get comfortable with it last night. So, I went to the Activa - mouth leak heaven - bad this time. Tried a headband - but it was too tight and my jaw was sore after. Icky mouth when I woke up. So, I gave up and around 4:30 AM finally went back to the Mirage FF. Oh well. I will try again once I get my chin strap I ordered. However, I have a feeling that my lips will still give way and do "razberries". I have tried taping, but I have managed to pull off the skin along with the tape. I ordered the Blenderm some have commented on, and I hope it works for me.
