Re: New Bipap user
Screen shot did not come through. The forum's image storage is most likely full. Your best bet is to put the screen shot on an photo sharing site like imgur. Free accounts are easy to make at imgur.com, and then you can link to the image you want us to look at.
UA stands for "unclassified apnea". It means that your machine thinks it detected an apnea, but it was unable to determine whether it was an OA (obstructive apnea) or a CA (central apnea). The most likely reason the machine would not be able to tell if an apnea is an OA or an CA is the presence of a very large leak that interfered with the test to determine whether the airway was blocked (OA) or clear (CA).
Also, it would help us if you would fill your your equipment under your Member Profile. Use text, not images. And if you're using an AirCurve, you may need to look under both the A's (for AirCurve) and the R's (for Resmed AirCurve)

Fixed that for you.
How did you end up with the AirCurve ST machine? What was your diagnosis?
What sleep studies have you had??? Home study or in lab study?
The ST machine lumps central apneas and obstructive apneas in one basket and that basket is the UA basket.
It can't tell the difference between central apneas or obstructive apneas.

Hi Pugsy,
It was an overnight study at a hospital. They said I had a "mix of central sleep, obstructive apneas, hypopneas, flow limiting events causing arousals and snoring is present. and it may be reasonable to initiate treatment using BiPAP ST at a pressure of 12/7cm water pressure with a backup rate of 10 breaths per minute."

Did you have a sleep study done in the lab WHILE USING the mask and machine or did they just come up with some sort of generic setting?
Your current settings aren't doing a good job for you.

I am using the same mask, but the machine I was using was a Resmed machine that they could change settings in an office while they were monitoring me.
Re: New Bipap user....ResMed AirCurve 10 ST Bilevel machine
You might want to contact the doctor because the settings aren't dealing with your issues very well at all.
Too many UAs (which are either central or obstructive in nature) and too many hyponeas as well.
IMHO you need a pressure change to get those events reduced in number.
Call your doctor...the supplier of the machine won't change anything without the doctor's input.

OK. I did change the pressure up from 12/7 to 13/8, hoping it would make a difference. It didnt seem to make much change. Thank you very much for your help. I will get an appointment with my doctor.

Hi,
I cant get in to my doctor for a few months, so Ive tried a couple of things. I replaced the heating tube with a regular tube and turned the humidifier off. I am now getting better numbers. Mostly getting hypopneas now. Can you tell me what these numbers look like?
Thank you,
