Airsense 10 cutting in and out

Post by Trivium91 » Tue Apr 09, 2024 3:07 pm

Hey Guys, im troubleshooting an issue with my grandfathers Airsense 10. The machine is cutting in out in OSCAR, he's 86 years years old and completely useless as far as technology or anything technical. Without putting a camera in his room while he sleeps, i don't have a reliable way to tell what's going on. I believe he forgot to turn the machine on from about 12:30 to 2:30 after peeing. Regardless, the machine is cutting out during the times he is using it and he is unable to tell me if the motor is running or not. It's also reporting much less time than his sleep time despite him affirming me that he is using it. This machine was refurbished since he flooded it with too much water. From what I can tell either the flow sensor is messed up or the motor is cutting out at night. I assume if it was the motor that the machine would tell us though. The sleep clinic is completely useless and say the results look great. Well I looked at their screen, they are not looking at the flow rate throughout the night like I am in Oscar ( they dont use Oscar at all). They said it's likely some incompatible with the machine and Oscar, or that his mask is leaking and the machine is turning off, I call Bull on that but I wasn't going to argue. Their data just looks at the nights as a whole, it doesn't look much better than what you can get in the app or on the machine already. Has anyone ever seen this? I just bought him a new machine online that should be here in a week because I dont think they need to pay twice as much as the sleep clinic, especially since their monitoring has been horrible. He has been using the Phillips dream station for at least 6 months with 12 events per hour with a pressure at 6, his heart rate is going up to 130 at night and 80% oxygen and they are supposed to be monitoring him, I guess not huh. Im suspecting a bad flow sensor which is a board level component that cannot be replaced?

screenshot is here:

he has congestive heart failure due to not using a CPAP for 8 years since his diagnosis, so im aware of the waxing and waning patterns in some of the data. His breathing at night is horrible based on the data from the Philips, and he really is on his last legs so im trying to do what I can to help him.

The large gap between 00:40 and 2:25, the machine was likely off, and then turned back on. We know this because the pressure started at it's ramp of 6. The gap at 4:00 is also a machine power cycle.

All the smaller gaps throughout the traces are a data reporting problem. The machine is staying on and likely not cutting out. We know this because the pressure isn't resetting to ramp pressure.

Consider changing the SD Card and ensure you're on the latest version of OSCAR 1.5.2

The memory card and Oscar both work in my 11, thus I know it’s a problem with the machine.

Have you checked all the connections in the power cord and make sure its pressed into the cpap?
Is it possible to try a different wall outlet?

There is a weird thing I noticed that if you bump the power cord where it plugs into the machine, it will turn off. I cant imagine he’s bumping it in the night though, also that seems really strange because if it turned off it would start back at 6cm, wouldn’t it?

That is likely your problem. I would push that all the way in.

I was having trouble like that and the plug is behind my bed. Sometimes the pillows fall in the gap between the wall and the bed (we don't have a headboard), and that was pushing the plug out of the outlet.

I relocated where I plug in the machine, and problem solved.

Yes it’s pushed in all the way, it maybe seems like the barrel connector inside the machine is loose or worn out. This machine is at least 5 years old.

Hopefully, the barrel connector is not damaged.

There are 3 separate points along the power cord that plug into other parts. Not to mention, I have seen wall outlets that simply won't hold on to the plug.
