From Secondwind website..What do you think?

How long will my CPAP last?
The average life expectancy of a CPAP or BIPAP machine is approximately 20,000 hours, or about seven to eight years full time use. That said, many times, if properly cared for, these devices will last much longer. Many properly maintained machines will last upwards of 50,000 hours.

I think 50,000 is very optimistic, but I imagine most decent machines will go longer than the 5 yrs insurance co's allow.

Oh, I think that is true. There's been plenty of people on this board with machines that are 10-15 years old. 50,000 would be about 17 years assuming 8 hours a night.

My S8 went a little over 30000 hours before the controls had issues. The motor didn't seem to have problems so it had more life left in it.

I have a family friend who still has his very first machine when he was put on cpap back in the prehistoric days around 1990 and it still works. He's a doctor and while he does have other machines that he uses for travel (and he travels a lot nowadays) he still uses that old dinosaur at home. He told me he has probably 10 years of nightly use on it and it still works just fine. Not nearly as nice and quiet as the newer ones but he said he got used to it and it's not an issue (hearing not so great now either). He says it is huge compared to the new ones but it still works well for him.

Sounds a little too much, I don't suppose that high a number wouldn't make their readers think it would make sense to repair rather than replace as much life is still left in the unit. Good Marketing! Jim
