New user trying to troubleshoot machine

Post by imbaker » Tue May 15, 2018 7:00 pm

Received a HST a couple months ago and finally got a machine in the last week. HST showed mild apnea with AHI at 6.. I ended going outside of insurance, because they were being particularly difficult to deal with and did not receive any titration and my doc is generally useless. Script calls for APAP at standard configuration (Auto at 4-20.) I have PR Dreamstation auto with humidifier. Using and P&K full face mask. Right now machine is set to 5-20 auto with c-flex and ramp. My AHI has fluctuated between 5.9 at best and 13 something at worst, with a few OSAs and clear airway apneas, but a large number of hypopneas. I have also not noticed any difference in sleep quality either. Humidifier is set all the way up, but my mouth is insanely dry in the morning.

Sorry if any of this is covered somewhere else. I've done my best to try to read up on the faqs and tried my best to do some research, but there is a lot of stuff out there and its kind of information overload for me and sleepyhead is far too much for me to interpret as of now. Could someone point me in the right direction as far as what to do as far as titration etc?

Can you get the detailed tab on the left under the calendar instead of the events tab?

Also can you go into the clinical setup menu area and confirm what your settings are? All of them...... The pressure graph doesn't support a 5 to 20 setting.

Sorry about that. I have played around with it a bunch (perhaps too much in my impatience.) I think I started at 5-11, but have since moved it. Last night I was on 6-20. Current machine settings are AUTO, optistart off, ezstart on, min 6 max 20.

Ezstart is screwing up your machine and not letting it go above 6 cm and it wants to. See how the pressure is pegged out at 6 cm...EZStart is messing things up.

Turn off Ezstart and keep Optistart off...and let the machine do what it is trying to do....prevent those snores, FLs, OAs and hyponeas.

ezstart should be called "choke more", as far as I'm concerned.

"in a couple weeks".

Going to ask a couple of questions - do you sleep mostly on your back? When you sleep, does your head fall forward, possibly cutting off your airway to a large extent? Do you snore at all? Depending on your answers, I have some comments and things for you to think about re using cpap at all.

Hard to know some of these because I am asleep. Tend to be a side sleeper but sometimes end up on my back. I doubt that my head tilts forward, although I suppose it may be possibe. I used to snore quite loudly. However fiancé says that I sn9re but not cinsistently or super loudly.

If you back sleep most of the time, it does provoke more apneas, but may not be the case for you. Others may side sleep, but tuck their heads down and block their airways somewhat and you have flow limitations that may show that, but again apparently not necessarily your issue. I would (have) recommended a soft cervical collar †o address those things, but it may not be as necessary as other things people more familiar with the graph results will see, so just an explanation of why I did ask the questions.

For real. I was about to turn that thing into a damned doorstop.

I ... guess.... i can guess what they were thinking when they came up with that 'feature' but honestly, I think it's the dumbest thing I've seen in ever.
