What should be done about a small, ever-present leak?

Post by DankShroud » Sat Apr 21, 2018 1:16 pm

All the while that I've been using CPAP, I've had a small, constant leak rate. Although it spikes and varies with mask removals/repositionings, it's present all night, every night at its 6L/m baseline. Could this affect sleep quality? I've felt up the hose and CPAP and didn't feel any leaks. Is my CPAP compromised?

Please fill out your equipment profile, https://www.cpaptalk.com/ucp.php?i=ucp_ ... pment_info and do a full screenshot, including the left panel when asking questions, the type of cpap you have affects what the correct answer should be.

Please don't 'scrap book' by only showing parts of the full sleepyhead screen.

Also, don't ever shrink the images... makes 'em hard/impossible to read.

A 6lpm leak on a resmed is well within the machine's capability to compensate for, unless it's disturbing your sleep, I woudln't worry about it.

Are you clean shaven? Any facial hair can cause very subtle leaks.

Assuming that you have made the correct mask selection choice in the setup menu I think the baseline is just nothing more than a combination of the vent rate being so high at your 20 cm pressure that the machine doesn't realize that for you it's really no excess leak.

I have seen this on occasion where the baseline never drops to the 0.0 line where we would expect it to be with no leak.
Seems to be dependent more on the mask type than anything else.
Sometimes the baseline isn't 0.0 for some reason or other.

Doesn't really matter though...baseline calculation error or persistent low level leak...the machine can handle it easily. I wouldn't worry about it.
