I can relate to the OP's post.
For me a common dream is that I am inhaling someone else's cigarette smoke, or smoking myself. Obviously the memory of the effect is lodged in my head, as an ex-smoker. I am sure it means I am re-breathing breathed air, and it is CO that I can sense.
But it is far from the only nightmare.

Had my new CPAP and slept with it for 2 nights so far. No more bad dreams of not being able to breathe and waking up unable to breathe.
