ResMed AirMini tube adapters?

I decided to bite the bullet and bought the ResMed Airmini as I've been somewhat dissatisfied with my Transcend - not so much the delivery of therapy but it's funky humpback whale design - NO - I don't wear it on my head!

Right out of the box today I'm impressed with the Airmini size and more conventional design. I already use the ResMed P10 airpillows so I've no concern about the limited mask compatibility as my preferred mask works - EXCEPT! What I did not realize when I bought the machine (out of pocket, not insurance purchase) is that ResMed in some moment of marketing brilliance (at least I'm sure they see it that way) decided to design it with proprietary hose connectors - ON BOTH ENDS!

Now, my bad for not doing my research. Why is this upsetting - well because proprietary always costs more than generic - I'm an Apple/Mac user and know all about proprietary connections, etc. Thanks to ResMed's move I can not use my standard P10 masks - which were interchangeable with my Transcend and my S9 used at home, nor can i buy generic tubing. This is important to me because when I travel in-flight I don't want to have to wrestle a 6' or longer hose. Much shorter hoses are available (in fact I'd already bought a couple and a hose connector for an international flight coming up this summer) but they won't work.

So now I have to decide if the hose is a deal breaker and I return the Airmini and keep the Transcend (Airmini is 30-day returnable). I would hope that some smart CPAP supplier will come out with a simple adapter but as the Airmini is new I've no idea when that might happen. Anyone know of one? (I've seen posts here on adapting the mask end of the hose to use other masks but that's not truly my issue.) Anyone developed a hack for the hose to airmini connection?

I just don't understand ResMed doing this. The Transcend comes with a very simple clear plastic 3' adapter that plugs into the machine and then accepts a standard CPAP hose. Why could ResMed not do the same thing?

I know of an airtight/watertight tape I've used to repair a split Cpap hose before so I suppose I could buy another ResMed hose, cut a length out of it then tape the two pieces together but seriously ResMed, was all of this necessary?

Anyone know of a workaround hack please let me know.

Rescue tape is your friend...

I think I remember someone posting a hose hack (at least at the mask end) a while back...sorry...don't remember who or when...or if I might have dreamed it.

I will see if I can find it a little later...I got some chores to do at the moment...animals seem to think they need supper.

Well...sort of a hack...and he still had to buy something special. I didn't remember all the particulars.

I think rescue tape could be a fix. Here’s my thoughts...

Parts:
1 Resmed Air mini hose
2 hose connectors
1 roll rescue tape
1 short std hose

Plan:
1. Cut the ends off the Resmed hose a couple inches deep.
2. Insert hose connector/coupler/splicer (call I what you will) and tape in place to each end.
3. Attach short standard hose between two connector ends.

That should result in a useable short hose for the Airmini with The proprietary connections. Actually you could presumably insert any length hose you desire from 12” to 10’.

I’ve used rescue tape to seal a cut hose before with no issues and I’ve used it to seal a leaking pool pump hose. That seal has lasted three years outdoors in weather.

I’m gonna test the machine to be sure I like it before hacking anything but it’s an idea.

I hacked the hose when I first got mine, epoxied an end I removed from another hose, and it has worked GREAT for the past few months. However, I found these this morning on Amazon:

I just ordered a couple, looks like you can just plug any hose into the airmini.
