Getting Respironics Comfort Gel nasal mask worrking better

Post by Chalkie » Thu Apr 12, 2018 9:06 am

I need to cut down on leaks with the Comfort Gel nasal mask.

I am due back at the sleep clinic in a month and will ask for a different full face mask them but want to get this one working better in the meantime.
I actually felt worse with the Amara View full face mask.

Has anyone used a chin strap successfully? Any other tips for helping cut down on leaks from the Confort Gel? One of the issues is that the mask does not fit snugly to my face and air leaks between the mask and my cheek. Anyone had good results from taping it down?
Machine: Philips Respironics BiPAP C Series.
Mask: Respironics Comfort Gel Nasal Mask.

Pressure 12-18.

IMHO there are a lot better nasal masks out there that aren't nearly as problematic for keeping a seal than the old Comfort Gel.

BTW...when was the last time you changed out the cushion and got a new cushion for the ComfortGel?

Your leaks sound like (and look like on the leak graphs) mask movement leaks. I wish they had given you a better nasal mask to try before giving your the Amara View.
Sounds like they only have Respironics masks.....is that true?

If that's the case...I think I would like to see how you do on the Respironics Wisp first before the big leap to the Amara View.
I don't know how old the ComfortGel is but it was around back when I started therapy in 2009 and it wasn't new then...that makes it a dinosaur and there's nothing wrong with being a dinosaur as long as it is working but clearly for you it is not.

The Wisp

and if they have ResMed masks...this one is even better IMHO.

or even the new N20 which looks like sort of a Wisp

Heck you might like the DreamWear nasal cushion from Respironics and then maybe try the FFM cushion once it gets released in the UK.

Thanks Pugsy.

I should be able to get hold of a Wisp - I think they have been starting new patients on that for some time now.

EDIT: I changed the cushion quite recently as Respironics sent me a new mask.
