NEED HELP - Cpap rental in St Lucia? (Murphy strikes again)

Post by jdm5 » Tue Apr 10, 2018 5:27 am

Probably a long shot, but we’re vacationing in St Lucia and my trusty Resmed Autoset II stopped working (it worked fine the first night).

Funky smell / not sure what happened but smells like motor died.

Can anyone recommend a facility that I can rent a machine here for the rest of our trip? Or any chance a reader here has an extra I can borrow/rent?

I’m googling, will be calling places I’ve found when they open.

Thank you!!!

Exhausted on vacation :-(

Call the Respiratory Therapy (or equivalent) Dept. of a local hospital and ask them where to go.

In case this happens to anyone else:

1) Nearly everyone I spoke with at the various medical facilities was very nice and they tried to be helpful (as was nearly everyone we interacted with on the island).

2) I was told by numerous people the only facility on St. Lucia which has CPAP machines (as of April 2018) is at “The Sleep Lab” (sorry I don’t have more details) - 758-459-2216. They knew exactly what CPAP was, but had only started carrying them in 2016 and didn’t have any here this week I could use or buy.

So I’ve spent a rough few nights here - my wife laughed at me several years ago when I brought n+1 CPAP machines with us on a road trip (and didn’t need the spare) - now she won’t laugh anymore...

I always haul the spare.
Because Ol' Murph knows where I am--all the time.

How much longer will you be there?

Leaving tomorrow. Considered having family/friends overnight my main machine to me but I don’t think the cost/benefit is there.

Yeah...not that much help with just one day left.
And the cost would probably let you buy another machine.
I once over nighted a nasal pillow to the Bahamas....$80 but she and her husband (who was suffuring secondarily because of the snores ) still had 4 nights left and they were glad to pay it.
Machines....lot more expensive I would think. At least for people like me with no special shipping accounts.

You know the routine for sleeping without cpap....sleep upright as much as possible and stay off your back and all that.
I am so sorry that your beautiful vacation in a beautiful place got messed up with this problem.
Murphy's Law strikes at the worst times it seems like.
