Not adjusting well

Post by DoubleB65 » Mon Mar 19, 2018 6:52 am

Into my fourth week and I don’t feel like I’m adjusting well. This last week I only kept the mask on for 3-4 hours a night. I wake up hot and take it off only to fall back asleep restlessly without it. First if night when I put it on I go to sleep within a half hour. But then between 2-4 hours in I wake up hot and feel like I’m breathing hot air. My heater is not on and I keep my room very cool for sleeping. If I don’t take the machine off when I wake up I’ll just lay there for a couple hours trying to go back to sleep to no avail.

I see my Dr a week from today. Anyone have any advice at all?

You have a fixed pressure machine and it's possible that the pressure setting is not right for you. Do you know your setting?

Your equipment profile shows a Dreamstation 200 (single pressure) CPAP, but your comment says it's a 500 (auto adjusting) APAP unit, so that's all a little confusing.
Is the APAP set to Fixed mode?

In either case, your settings may not be optimized for your treatment. Please provide further specific information--. OK, just checked your previous posts, so I see your machine is the APAP set to variable pressure.

Probably best to post recent SH results so the experts here can assess things for you.

Might want to update/correct the equipment profile to avoid confusion.
If you have the mode DSX500xxx machine then the correct machine choice would be
DreamStation Auto CPAP Machine

It sounds like you'r experiencing discomfort from the mask. You might want to try an different mask style and/or a mask liner. Some people don't like the feel of plastic on their skin.

If it's the air from the hose that's too hot, try turning down the humidifier or even turn it off.

I don’t use the humidifier and the settings for it are at zero.

This morning after 3:38ours I woke up and literally could t breathe out with the nasal
Pillow mask on so I took it off. I’m having a hard time getting to 4 hours but my AHI was at 4.9. I see my Dr on Monday so perhaps I can try new masks then. I’m just having a hard time getting any decent sleep it seems.

FINALLY...much much better. Two back to back nights with 7 plus hours of mask usage and AHI of under 4.6 both nights. Hopefully adjusting....it just takes time.

I am glad you are having success now! I think it is commendable that you stuck with it, you should be proud.
