Minute Ventilation

Post by gogailg5 » Wed Feb 28, 2018 12:58 pm

I've been a CPAP user, Autoset, Resmed S9, for over 10 years. Today I noticed I had an event for 42 seconds.
A closer look show that there was no flow-limitations...however the minute Ventilation dropped as low 3.38 to 0.00.
from what I can comprehend on my own. I am not breathing deeply. Am I getting to much air? The event was registered
as Obstructive, and not central. How do I fix this?
thanks,
Gail

I am currently living in Ukraine, serving with the Peace Corp, so there is a 7-hours difference.

One event on one night? Might be a hiccup but watching it for a bit. Does your machine have close to 25000 hours on it? Might want to look for a back up unit as I believe 20000 is pushing the limits of service life.

Two things, first the S9 line was introduced in 2010, so, you haven't been using it for over 10 years.

Second, if you're not breathing the moving average that is the MV will go to zero, eventually.

If you only had one, then I wouldn't do anything, if you're having plenty of obstructive, raise the min pressure.

You said you'd been on the s9 for over 10 years... and they haven't been made that long.

I was simply listing some facts about myself, in no particular order....but yes, over 10 years I have been using a CPAP machine.

During a long event you are not breathing any air (or very little) so tidal volume will be low, so the minute ventilation is also going to be very low.
