Back after a while away .. need help with software.

Post by jonquiljo » Thu Mar 15, 2018 11:55 pm

Hi. I haven’t been to the board in a long while - I guess I got complacent - but stayed compliant. I have a few APAP machines (all Respironics). I have to keep at least one as backup as my dogs get skunked twice a year filling the house with this vapor that takes about 2 months to fully evaporate. These guys NEVER learn, but we love them. An APAP is great at concentrating the vapor inside its fan and it takes about 6 months or so when the house becomes clear for the machine to finally lose it’s stink. I wait two months and then get out a backup. Since skunks tend to return, I keep a third on hand (or for travel). Sorry for TMI, but I never saw much online about what a skunky house can do to a CPAP machine! I really wished they made skunk impermeable filters for CPAPs! The good news is that the smell dissapates eventually and the machine becomes “fresh.”

Well anyway, I have a System one left - old style with SD card that used to clog up my computer when I used to use it to load data. I have a newer System One with a bluetooth interface - to use for smartphone or tablet. I never really got the hang of it.I just got a Dreamstation since the last skunk attack. It has a bluetooth interface also.

Since I’m still using my machines, I thought it would be a good idea to go back to checking sleep data at some interval. These days I seem to get so stressed that while sleeping in the middle of the night, i will either pull off the mask and throw it as far as I can - or have (only occasionally) taken the hose and machine and throw them an appreciable distance. Of course I expect this would show up in a nightly report, but I have totally forgotten how to save data and keep track of things on a computer or tablet.

So for Respironics machines, assuming I can figure how to get the bluetooth working - say -with an iPad - what is the software most people use these days? The System one with the old SD slot can supposedly be converted to bluetooth with a small, relatively inexpensive module. So it seems Bluetooth is the way to go. I could look up what my new Dreamstation uses - but I remember that many people on this board had better software alternatives in the past. Or does Philips Respironics have control of that these days also. Well, if anyone knows the best way to go about collecting data these days ... please let me know.

As an aside ... just for grins ... i’d love to know what my breathing is like before I throw one of these machines across the foom. I guess I must have developed “anger issues.” BTW, the System ones all survive the insult without even a dent! TIA

Sleepyhead, via the SD card, is still the weapon of choice. The bluetooth, though "convenient', doesn't provide the data that the SD card has, and the app that respironics offers to use with bluetooth is dumbed down to near uselessness.

Thanks .... I somehow expected that Respironics did that with their software and interface. Where is the “safest” place to DL Sleepyhead? Also, even the newer machines have the “original” SD cards in them? I didn’t know those things existed these days. Will a newer SDHC reader be back compatible? I havent seen an SD reader in years.

Back a number of years ago, if you had an SD card with more than a few months of sleep data on it - the’d almost freeze a PC trying to read them as they were so slow they created an I/O bottleneck. I guess I can freshly format the cards if the readers these days are still compatible. Thanks!

SD cards are at the forefront of technology. Just about every digitial camera has standardized on them, as well as many other devices.

There's no such thing as a SDHC reader, only an SDHC card.

Hmm. Thanks. I thought that when SDHC (and others) cards came out, camera makers said to use an SHHC reader, not an SD reader. I must have made a mistake. I will try it.

My oldest SD card reader reads my SDXC cards. the sd/sdhc/sdxc/etc 'magic' happens in the drivers in the card, and the drivers in the device (computer/camera, etc.) not the physical interface.
