Resmed S9 shutting off

Post by Maui19 » Sun Mar 11, 2018 7:54 am

Over the past few months, I have been having a weird problem with my Resmed S9. My S9 will shut off for a brief period, then start working again. The other day, this woke me up (as it usually does) and the S9 had a message on the screen that said it was writing to the SD card. Apparently my machine has been stopping to write to the card from time to time. This is a farily new development, since I have had the machine for years and it has workd flawlessly.

My first thought is to reformat the card, or replace it, but I thought I'd ask here first to see if anyone can provide any insight into what/why this is happening.

Thanks!

My first thought is power supply loose or bad.
Check the connection at the back of the machine from the power cord to the machine itself. S9 connections at that point were known to get "loose" easily.
Second thought would be the power supply brick itself. I would ask the DME where you got the machine for a new power brick supply to use to see if the machine still seemed to be turning off randomly.
Third thought would be the if you are using the Smart Sense feature set to on...check reports for large leaks maybe causing the machine to turn off and then back on again if it senses you are back. If Smart sense is set to on...try turning if off and see if the random restarts continue or not.

Fourth though...if SmartSense is already off...and none of the above resolves the issues then the machine likely ailing and I would be making plans to get another machine. One of these days that S9 may turn itself off and simply not turn itself back on again.

When is the machine supposed to write data to the SD?

You will see that message about writing to the SD card anytime the machine has lost power and starts up again.
So it doesn't necessarily mean there is anything wrong with the SD card.

SD cards are cheap though....I would suggest just buying a new card if you want to investigate that angle.
Any cheap generic SD card will work with your S9 machine. I got one at WalMart...Sandisk 8 GB (can't find any smaller size) and it works just fine.

It writes data continually throughout the night, while it's running.

It's shutting off for some other reason, and writing the finishing data when it does so... and that's what you're seeing.
