Here I thought sisters were all like watching a Hallmark movie ....... ROFL
Oh...no..not my house.
My sister and I fought something awful from the time she was brought home from the hospital and was in the crib and I threw a hammer in the crib in an effort to dispose of the annoyance. I was 16 months older.

She was highly allergic to poison ivy...and I am not. So I would pick poison ivy leaves and put them in a bouquet of flowers and give them to here. We were grown before I finally told my mom why my sister always seemed to have a poison ivy rash on her.

One time when I was 17 and she was 16 we got into a big knock down drag out fight and I was sitting straddle of her banging her head on the floor and she turned her head and took a chunk of flesh out of my thigh with her teeth.
We gave my mom lots of gray hairs.
WOW !!!!!

So like do you check the shrubbery in front of your house when you come home at night ???

I mean there could be an angry woman hiding in there ready to jump out with a large pair of scissors in her hand...... YIKES !!

This should not be possible with a properly set up registration system. I thought that the Goodman's had sorted this but maybe not. I would be seriously looking at whoever administers their account as the safeguards are obviously not in place.
What do you suggest?

The war between bots and websites is an ongoing war. Every time someone comes up with a 'better' anti-bot feature, the bot writers come up with a better bot.

And that's not even counting the chinese (and possibly other) sweatshops where hoards of people are looking at the captchas and solving them, remotely... so the bots can log in.

What does this mess have to do with cpap talk? I don’t think it does.

Then you missed the "fun".
Awhile back, we suffered a spambot invasion that all but shut the forum down.
Pages and pages of foreign characters, and no possibility of answering questions.
Some people are just plain evil.
Whose side are YOU on?

What does it matter what you think?

It happened here, that's what it has to do with cpaptalk.

Well as a member and a person with sleep apnea and a cpap I have a right to post what I think. As for this topic there is a lot of posts here that are not cpap or apnea related.

Yeah you do have that right but so do we. We get to talk about whatever we want to talk about and you are within your right to not like it but there's nothing you can do about it.

We've never limited any discussions here at this forum to cpap or apnea only....and if you had been here when the spam bot attacked and woke up to thousands of Chinese spam and not being able to post on the forum for all the crap going on then maybe you would find a little room in your heart for discussions about other frustrations.

If you can't....then don't read a thread if you find it is going in a direction that you don't care to go....it's what I will likely do from here on when it comes to what you might say.

But they are in English not Chinese, that's a improvement! I check the title of the posts, they tend to be a clue of what the post is about sometimes, at least until the post goes off the rails. Jim

The spam bot is probably tweens (plural)who are computer savvy and do not care about how they inconvenience others. It is sort of the modern version of girls at slumber parties and boys in other boys bedrooms making crank calls. It is unnecessary to point out the difference in scale, the impulses are the same, but the ability is much higher. There are no cures just temporary fixes. Pugsy's solution only bores them until they are ready to try again. There are no cures.

The spam war is a war that will likely be around for years and years and years.
We implement security to prevent them and they work on finding a way around that security.

He tried again tonight...but his spam disappears just as quickly as he posts it so you all missed it....until probably the we hours of this morning which is his favorite time to hit when he thinks no one is home watching the store.

He's tried every day pretty much since we implemented the new security measures but it's not making it through.
He's sneaky. Really sneaky with what he has been trying lately but I am just as sneaky and I have easily spotted his sneaky attacks

At least I don't have to stay up all night now so that I don't wake up to 3 thousand spams to have to remove.

If you do see spam....of any kind that is real spam....flag it and I will remove it and the account will be banned.

The value is in the links posted.

Somewhere I read that the more links a site has posted throughout the internet - the higher the site moves up on searches.

I haven't followed the links, but Pugsy did you say they were dead ends?

In that case maybe it's just a game between a couple of youths, to see who can get more hits or higher on the search engines.

The recent Chinese bot university stuff...that's been around for over 10 years at various websites.
If I google a bit of the content I get hits with broken links but not a lot of them. Just enough to know that this crap has been going on for a long time and I don't think it's kids.
The other day I was on a forum with a live chat and the live chat was infected with live Chinese university spam.
And get this...it was a forum on security for how to prevent this crap. They had a serious problem going on.
Near as I can tell there are no active links in the Chinese university/school spam.
I fail to see the purpose myself but I guess someone does because somebody is spending a lot of time and effort to do it and has been doing it for years. Only reason that I can think of...money. Somebody somewhere is paying someone to do this...to set up the bots and all.

The few stragglers that remain to get a "hit" if using google...not worth it I would think. It's always bits and pieces anyway.
It's not like the normal spam where their is an active link to go buy something....like Nike shoes or whatever.

The Chinese dude with his university stuff...he still comes by here daily. I see him trying his crap but the new security in place is preventing him from flooding the forum. Yesterday he made half a dozen attempts at various time during the day.
Nothing after I went to bed last night but sometimes he still tries the middle of the night crap too.

At the same time the new security is also preventing 99% of the normal usual spam with links...so that's a plus too.
Still see an old straggler slip through but they will only slip through once.  The justice axe is swift when that happens.

Spam as been around ever since there was the start of the internet. It's not going away. We just deal with it as best we can.

I am just thankful that I don't wake up to thousands of Chinese spam to have to clean up. The random stuff...piece of cake to deal with and for the most part you guys never see it.
