Maybe I'm not getting ENOUGH sleep.

Post by yourbrokenoven » Tue Mar 06, 2018 12:00 pm

I've been trying to unravel why I have never felt any sleep quality improvement, and I've been thinking.

So I started therapy (BiPAP) about a week before my son (who is now about 3 1/2) was born.

My wife and I used to sleep at least 10 hours when possible before this. Daughter (who is now 14) was homeschooled until recently.

Today is one of the few days since beginning treatment that I've woken up feeling anywhere near refreshed, and I got about 12 hrs of sleep today.

This is obviously not possible to do very often as it's next to impossible to get the toddler and the teenager to go to bed before 10 or 11pm, but my wife had to get up early this morning for something anyway, so the kids are in school and daycare and she let me go back to sleep until 11:30 am. Wow. What a difference. Obviously I return the favor when possible and neither of us complain when the other needs a nap.

Maybe my problem has nothing to do with a leaky mask and I just need MORE sleep.

Anyone else feel like 8 hrs just doesn't cut it?

I wonder if your sleep is still fragmented causing you not to feel rested after 8 hours. Right before treatment started myself I felt rested after about 11 to 12 hours.

I haven't got 8 hours sleep in 20 years. My average is 6.5-7...I feel fine.

Almost everyone sleeps far fewer hrs on Cpap - kind of the point of using it really - your body doesn't need more hrs to get good sleep anymore.

The only time I feel rested even with treatment is when I get around 10 or more hours.

When you say fragmented sleep, what are we talking about here? I'm aware that I change positions often to relieve back pain. Lying down for a couple hours makes my spine ache. Pain became much worse after starting treatment as if the joints between my ribs and spine were inflamed. The doctor seems to thing I sleep too deeply and the pain is from not positioning often enough.
