Advice for fitting AirFit F20 FFM?

Post by ElTigre » Thu Feb 22, 2018 10:07 am

I seem to be struggling here :-(

I either seem to have the mask too tight, and it causes pain at the bridge of my nose. Or too loose and I get leaks. I end up constantly trying to adjust the straps all night but can't find a good fit. Maybe I should try another full face mask?

(I'm not really a fan of the nasal pillow masks as I open my mouth a lot during sleep and by the time I've used a chin strip, well it might as well just be a full face mask. )

Thanks for any suggestions!

i am using the Airfit F10 mask. I have had it for a week. I am really struggling. I exchanged the F&P Simplus I had for this because a friend uses the Airfit and says it works almost perfect for him. My leaks all the time and it slides up my face till the bottom is in my mouth. My prescription is 16 for my machine. I do the mask fit test when i am ready to go to sleep, everything feels good and I am excited it is sealed. Usually within a few minutes if I move at all i will feel freaking leaks. I tighten straps (which isn't supposed to be what you are supposed to do according to the vids i have seen) but it doesn't seem to help all that much. I usually end up taking the mask off after 3 or 4 hours. It is frustrating. However i need this cpap bad just to function thoughout the day.

Are you sure you have the right size cushion for your mask? When I used the F&P Simplus mask, I used two pieces of tape to keep the mask in place at night. The tape was placed close to the mask swivel, and ran down to under my chin. I used this set up for several months until I changed over to the F20 face mask. I have found that I have trouble keeping my chin from sagging which in turn causes the lower portion of the mask to get into my mouth. I solved that problem by using a firm foam cervical collar when sleeping. The collar keeps my chin from dropping, and helps to keep my air way open. I have been able to chance my required pressure from 20 - 25 to 14 - 16.

they measured me at the sleep study and the medical supply store. it is supposed to be the right size but who knows. i am using a chin strap with the FFM. I have the chin strap pretty darn tight, but something is happening while sleeping that gets the damned bottom of mask in mouth. Leaks drive me bonkers.

I pretty much have to do like other and need to use a C-collar to prevent dropping my chin and getting leaks. Also, I do use an F20 and have to make it pretty tight, much tighter than what I consider "not too tight" which is the standard advice, that has never worked for me with any mask I have tried. The shape of my face; old, fatty creased and more often than or bewhiskered, makes me have to wear the mask tight.
