Lines, marks, red spots, mask marks in the morning on my face.
Day #10. Or Night #10, rather. I have to be up early tomorrow because I'm having a crew come to the house to do some work outside. This means I have to be out there with them. And this means I have to be at least 2 hours before they get here, because it takes about one hour for all of the new wrinkles, lines, red spots, swellings, and ugly mask marks to leave my face in the morning. I tried smothering my puffy face with a bag of frozen peas first thing after I woke up.
NOT something you want to do when you first wake up!!
I tried cold wet teabags that I left in the fridge overnight, just for this purpose. Ha. Ha. Didn't do squat!
Am I strapping my mask on too tight? It's a full face mask, which I def need. So I can force my mouth shut at night. Otherwise, it would be open all night long and dry mouth and throat would be something to deal with.
Even with it this tight, sometimes I wake up and notice the mask is leaking. Or it's making this funny farting sound because it's leaking. LOL Sometimes that farting sound makes vibrations which tickle my face and wake me up.
I don't know if I'm doing this wrong or not. Sometimes I feel like it's not tight enough--and even if I tighten the straps, sometimes it moves while sleeping and 'farts' on me. I'm really worried this mask will make me have more wrinkles. I'm 49 and ugly enough already.
Am I doing something wrong or is this just a common side effect of having to wear a full face mask? I cannot change to another style-- as my dental health is in jeopardy from sleeping with my mouth open for over 2 years straight now. (I've been having extensive dental work done the past few months, and I am just now about to finally get my partials! Very excited! Very $$$! They were needed because I suffered dental ill health from the dry mouth for so long. Had to have teeth removed....) So you see, I really need this full face mask. Just don't need the wrinkles and the puffy marks.
Comments and advice please! And thank you all once again for bearing with me-- I'm a low vision newbie here and really really do appreciate everyone's help and insight. And patience!! Thank you!

Re: Lines, marks, red spots, mask marks in the morning on my face.
Some people just get dents/marks from the straps because God made them that way.
I get nasty dents/marks and I have my mask so loose it nearly falls off. It's just because our cheeks and face tend to have a fluid retention and displacement issue. I will get a "scar" on my face if my pillowcase has a wrinkle in it. God just made me that way.
What you can do is try to fix up some sort of strap pad to diffuse the pressure of the straps on your skin.
Padacheek makes some really nice ones but they won't help you for tomorrow morning but if you have some bits of fleece like soft material handy you can make your own.
See here for what they look like. Several styles...just find one similar to whatever mask you use.

They may not totally eliminate all the dents/marks but they sure help reduce them considerably. I have used some sort of strap cover pretty much all the time I have been on cpap.

Thanks, Pugsy. I will def need to make a pad for my forehead, because it is actually sore/tender on either side.

I get them too. I used to get the suck ass comments when I was working. I use the "fireman's-type" mask, so if you think about it.... oh well! I would tell people I fell asleep on a hot BBQ grill. I got used to it, so I quit worrying. Anyway, nowadays, I keep my face lotioned-up. Also, very hot water (as hot as you stand) will remove the marks in the morning. I would put hot water on a washrag and scrub my cheeks. As Pugs said, the mask liners also help. Call padacheek if you want the liners. Best on the market.

Yes, too tight or too loose can be the problem, but not always.
I suggest that you soak the part that touches your face in 50% vinegar solution for two hours. If you don't like to odor of vinegar, wash and rinse very thoroughly.
If it's the headgear that's bothering you, place a piece of terrycloth between the straps and you skin. One suggestion is a baby sock.

I always get the lines and marks from my mask and headgear. I was told my mask was too tight, but there's no other way to stop the leaks.
I just got over the flu, and my sinuses are congested. My mask was so incredibly painful last night. I believe I only got just over 4 hours of sleep. I had to take it off because of the headache it caused.

Funny, I never missed a night since 1999 except for a power failure and for international travel (while on the plane). Before I had an automatic, I do remember turning the setting up once for a bad cold.yourbrokenoven wrote: ↑Sun Feb 25, 2018 10:47 amI always get the lines and marks from my mask and headgear. If the mask hurts your face, perhaps the headgear is too tight.
Try not to torque it.
After the fact, splash on Aqua Velva.
My marks are badges of success.
If anyone mentions them, you have my permission to throw water in THEIR face!

Mask leaks with every breath unless it's this tight.chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Sun Feb 25, 2018 11:37 amIf the mask hurts your face, perhaps the headgear is too tight.

It's pretty discouraging. I just got a brand new Simplus, which during the fit-test sealed perfectly while very loose, but now that I'm actually using it, I'm back to making it pretty tight just like my previous two masks.
Looks like they're all the same. At least the headgear on this one doesn't hurt when it's tight like the F20.
Even with the mask tight like this it still starts to leak when i'm actually asleep. These things are too expensive to keep trying new ones. I'm pretty discouraged.

Re: Lines, marks, red spots, mask marks in the morning on my face.
The gel in the Comfortgel full face allowed me to tighten that mask
like no other, to fit my non-standard face.
Gel is heavier than air-filled silicone, but fills the space on my face very nicely.
