Mask leakage

Post by Damecaz » Tue Feb 06, 2018 4:51 am

Hi guys, I'm new here and newly diagnosed with OSAS. I got my Resmed machine last week and have a face mask. For the first couple of nights I had no issues other than trying to find a comfortable sleeping position but for two nights now I can't stop the mask from leaking round the edges. It's as if it doesn't fit my face any more. No matter how I tighten the straps as soon as I relax into pre sleep state there are leaks. Any advice would be most gratefully recieved.

Don't overtighten the mask - it needs to inflate (the soft silicone touching you) to be effective. If it doesn't fit properly, either you need to readjust the straps, get a diff. size or even a diff. mask. You can also try liners (see Padacheek.com) that are helpful to many.

Thanks Julie, I thought there might be a level of over tightening going on. I'll have a look for liners.

Knowing your exact machine and MASK will help. Fill in your profile.

Mask liners can help tame the leaks, they were a game changer for me.

hey all yes I too am new here, not to Cpap been on since 08. Since it is was too hard to get the ins co to buy a machine or supplies without an act of congress I bought my own resmeds with humifiers, gel nasal masks and wa-la, The back of the truck so to speak where I was buying my stuff was from a Therapist who delivered for medicare, ha-ha, anyway I have a beard and moustache, had em for years, Finally got this new bamma care, after hitting the co pay I decided to get a sleep test again and see if I won the lotto and my ins would cover my supplies, well they did I got an auto adjust dreamstation with a cheap full face j10??? well from day one the mask leaks. We go back and forth with the mask I wanted resmed gel, they are determined to give me phillips I think j10, the machine when I started was set for 7 with auto adj to 3+ which is ten, on my old resmed this was fixed, now I have had to get a full face gel on my own and when I decided the leaking was getting out of hand I checked pressures and they are set 4 min to 20 max. I can see now why this mask will leak when I exhale it will ripple with the forced air leakage and sound like a sailboat sail loose in the wind.
I really never had an issue with my old nasal gel, but this new dreamscape is driving me nuts, it also uses twice the water for humidity even set on 2, anybody else having issues with this unit??? I can't believe I have only been getting 3-4 hours of sleep due to this "upgrade" and no the beard and mustache been here longer than the machines have. I go in tomorrow for surgery and would like to find out of I'm the only one whose machine is out of control, or if yours is working ok, my reg numbers should be 7-10max thanks yours red423

Well here's my second report with the FFM gell from resmed, this mask is GREAT, did I say great?? I manually adjusted my pressures to a comfort level I wanted 7min and 9 max and last night for the first time in a year no leaks around the mask. I don't know what gets into the suppliers of these masks other than they get a kickback from the manufacturers. I also noticed the water tank is back to a normal rate and the center of my chest no longer hurts with 12+ almost 20 at times air being pumped into my lungs. The nasal problem has slowed up and last night I didn't open my mouth to breath at all. Hate to say it but you would think after 10 years of using a resmed with humidifier, buying all my own equipment, the Insurance co suppliers would take into account what works and has been working all along for me, I have carried that resmed to canada, hong kong and have three of em just in case, yet Ohhhh noooooo they stick me with this dreamscape, and it looks nice on the night stand, but when I asked for a gel mask and a 10 foot hose well that isn't happening. It is now, one word of advice, a FFM gel style will not allow for auto on of these dreamscapes, there isn't enough residual air stacked to hit the switch, so I have to manually turn it on. big deal, I am contacting the dr as well as the supplier today to change my quarterly supply to gel. Soooooooo if you have a beard goatee or mustache you may want to consider a gel FFM or a nasal. IMHO yours red423

I hadn't heard about the FFM gel-style from ResMed. What is the model name? I have a beard and this sounds great!
