SD Card corrupted

Post by lilly747 » Sun Jan 21, 2018 12:40 pm

The s9 vpap wants to erase the card. My question is: if I erase the card, how much and what type of information will the machine rewrite to the card? Will the information include any of the machine settings, any long term data? I have down loaded all date including data for today. I will be taking my card into the Sleep Center's Doctor next Monday and was wondering what he will and will not be able to see.

Don't do anything yet...hopefully you haven't.

Tell me the operating system on your computer.

The cards are dirt cheap. Buy one put it in the machine and do your download, you will still have the corropted data card, take both to the dr. Jim

The S9 doesn't really hold anything in the internal memory that would be any different from the data the "corrupted" card holds.
All that blank/new SD card will get will be summary data only.

And most likely it isn't the card that is corrupted...it's the S9 not liking the card...because of something being on the card the machine doesn't like and it can be removed and we don't have to erase the card.
This is fixable depending on the operating system of the computer and there's no need to buy a new card.

Now if this is really a bad SD card then a new one is needed but at this point I think we can maybe fix it so no data is lost (by erasing the card) and there''s no need to go get a new card.

I need to know operating system on the computer though....if it is Windows and the S9 hasn't been allowed to erase the card I can probably fix it.
Lord knows I did it enough times with my own S9 I got real good at it.

Okay...easy fix if you are comfortable doing a bit of DOS like work.

rmdir "System Volume Information" /s /q

at the contents of the SD card window hold down the shift key and right click mouse...and choose Open command window and paste the above in the black window.
You have to navigate to the drive letter where the SD card sits....don't try to go into the card itself.
Hold down the shift key and at same time right click the mouse.
A menu will open up that you may have never seen been offering stuff you might not be familiar with.
Choose the "open command" window and paste the above into that little funny looking window and push enter button...
I just copy/paste that line...I don't risk typing it manually because of potential for typos with spacing and typing.
remove SD card and go stick it in the S9 and see if it still squawks about the corrupted card.
If done correctly the S9 should quietly accept the SD card.

Next time you pull your SD card...slide the lock to prevent Windows from adding that little text file to the card that the S9 doesn't like.

I got quite handy at doing this once my Windows 7 computer went to Windows 10. I just wasn't in the habit of locking the card and I would forget and the S9 would spit it out. Fortunately my new AirSense 10 doesn't care...so I don't have to lock the card anymore which is good because I still forget.
It's only the S9 model that cares about that little text file that Windows 8.xxx and higher (and some Macs) will put on the SD card.

If you erase the card all the detailed data files get erased off the card forever. Not that big of a deal unless your doctor might actually want to see those details. You've already got the detailed stuff in your software for your use.
The summary data...AHI and leak and pressure is stored on the machine's internal memory and will get put right back on the newly erased card but all the detailed data files will leave and no way to get them back.
So we don't erase the card unless we have no choice and you luckily have a choice.
It's not the end of the world to not have the data files on the card but no sense in erasing it unless we have no choice.

It should be unlocked in your vpap also, it can't write if it's not unlocked.

It will need to be unlocked for you be able to use the little script above to remove the pesky file that the S9 doesn't like.

The locking thing is for later and the next time you pull the SD card and put it in your computer to get new download.

It of course has to be unlocked when in the S9 and I think it will give you a message if you forget to unlock it....or at least mine did the few times I did remember to lock it before downloading to my software.

Alternate way...
down in the little box on the left where it says "type here to search"
type in
command prompt
click enter
see if the little black and white box pops up. It says command prompt on the top and will show something like

C: prompt with Users and your name depending on the path and a little flashing arrow
after the little flashing arrow you is where you would paste that script.

http://www.zdnet.com/article/windows-10 ... nd-prompt/

It says you can get to it from PowerShell.

It also says that different Windows 10 (and other) versions require a different way to access the command prompt box

You need to enter the drive letter of your SD before pudsy’s command such as d: if your sd card is drive letter D

Update.

We decided it wasn't worth the trouble.

Long story and discussion via phone about options and it was decided to just let the S9 erase the card and go from there.
She won't be seeing a doctor for a few days and it's unlikely he will even care about the detailed data graphs and if he is there will be between now and then details available along with the past year's summary data.

What I did was with a Windows 8.xxx computer. I haven't had the need to do it with my new Windows 10 computer and there are indeed different options to choose from than I had with the old computer.

We did discuss options...getting a new card, copying the card, etc. Decided it wasn't the end of the world to erase the card and let it put the past year's summary data back on it.

So that's what she did. And probably won't be forgetting to lock that SD card again.
Hopefully won't be long and it won't matter as the whole thing is trying to get a new AirCurve 10 machine which won't care about that Windows file and locking the card isn't really needed/.
